CONTEST:

If the promo wasn't a good enough reason to explore the lands of Xulima, we're also happy to announce a contest for you all!

You've shown us time and time again that you’re all other kinds of creative. If you're anything like us, than about half of every extended classic RPG session was spent rolling and adjusting every possible stat on that perfect party. That's the side of RPG gaming joy that really doesn't get enough credit - so this week we want to bring it to the forefront in the most classic style!

THE GOAL:

Design (write, draw, paint, photoshop, photograph) your very own RPG character sheet. Pen and paper style. Show us the coolest, funniest or just most creative character you can think of! Is it you? Is it your cat? Is it your grandmother, vanquisher of the empty stomach? We *need* to know.

THE GOODS:

We will pick 2 winners, who will receive their very own physical (and signed!) copy of Lords of Xulima - Collector's Edition. These editions are brand new and pretty unique collectors' items featuring a world map, and two hardcover books: Secrets of Xulima Game Guide and Bestiary & Mythology of Xulima. We'll also throw in 4 GOG.com game codes worth $9.99 each!

Knowing how these things go, there'll be plenty of runners up as well - so don't hesitate to enter even if you don't think you'll be numero uno.

THE RULES:

-- We're allowing only one entry per user, so make sure it's the one you love.
-- Submit your creation as a .jpg image as a forum reply to this post. Make it an attachement, or host it on http://imgur.com/.
-- We're accepting entries until Tuesday, July 21st, at 23:59 GMT.
-- We’ll be posting our favorite entries on our social media profiles, so get ready to get some fame - we promise to credit you by your GOG.com user name.

Have fun with it!

Funny stuff, but..."Thougness"?

Your version is just a bit fatter. You may want to slim her down a few pixels.

I had a bad typo in mine, too. I fixed it in my re-upload. :)

My original typo said that the gods were keeping her from being mortal, not immortal. She clearly wants to be immortal again since she discovered everything she knew about everything was wrong and she needed to reverse all the damage she'd done.

Haha. I didn't even notice. Your edit is hardly noticeable.

Actually, it would be better (and make sense) to credit by linking directly to people social media accounts if they have one ;) Mine is @alfrancke on Twitter (Nickname "Stray Cat Rock" from the 70's Japanese movie series ^o^)

Anyway, here's my submission with the character Valeria:

She's the ghost of one of the many Countess Bathory's victims. Stuck between the worlds of living and dead, she wanders in the realm of Xulima as an eternally tormented soul. Her appearance is the same as when she died : naked and left with the numerous marks of torture she endured. Her magical necklace was given by her grandmother who was burned alive for supposed witchcraft. Having her in your party can be troublesome due to her erratic and confused behavior as when draining the life out of the enemies, she sucks out a bit of the life of your party members too. Her optional sidequest is to find back her corpse so she can find back her inner peace and leave the realm of Xulima forever.
Doing this sidequest will definitely remove her from your party. Pic with stats attached below ;)

MAKING-OF:

I don't have a single clue about the lore of Xulima because I didn't catch up the GOG twitch stream so I based myself on the screenshots of the gamepage to see if it would fit. For the RPG "pen&paper" style, I'm also totally clueless (I vaguely played Space Hulk once in the 90's and I don't even grasp the rules of Magic The Gathering ^o^) so I
based them more on my PC RPG experience.

For the character in itself and her artwork, it's based on a famous (well amongst classic movie fanatics...) frame of "Shiver Of The Vampires" by Jean Rollin, the French master of dreamy and surreal vampire movies. As such, the character was first tought as a vampire but as I work with a 3D basis, it would have taken a bit more time to get a good facial expression to show her fangs without being too cheesy. So to not waste too much time, I totally changed the character by removing her clothes and going with the Countess Bathory background so the image would fit the story. Original frame of the movie with Marie-Pierre Castel attached below. English-dubbed trailer for the curious ones:
https://youtu.be/LLfrCyC9bsg

Technically, I went through my stock of licensed 3d assets as a basis to build up the scene, render it and then post-processing it in GIMP (rebalancing the colors and adding some pencil effects). I draw like a 5-year old so that's how I circumvent my limitations :o) Screenshot of the original 3d scene attached below.

To go along with the gothic tone, I chose an appropriate typefont but it brought up some readability troubles as I was mainly browsing through Hungarian female names. Originally her name was Angyalka ("Angélique" in French, an adjective to describe someone who has features/qualities of an angel) but it was unreadable with this typefont if you didn't know what was her name in the first place. So after many changes, I went with the common "Valeria" which I tought was a good reference as it's close to the name of Walerian Borowczyk, a famous Polish movie director who did "Immoral Tales", a multi-stories movie which amongst them, tells the life and death of the Countess Bathory (it was my favorite segment of the film, lots of artistic value) so in the end all comes full circle ^o^. Trailer for the curious ones:

The name "A Bite Of Love" for the special skill comes from the 1990 Hong-Kong movie with George Lam and Rosamund Kwan, a HK vampire movie in modern settings, I love the title so I put it here ^o^ (still have to watch the movie as it's in my collection):

And well, that's all folks! :o)

PS: To be fair, I put some extra effort and time in it as I have a visual novel planned for next year which should be in this tone so I did the main artwork as some project basis reference :o)
