Sensenacai: I still don't get it lol. Maybe I'm just too dense.
It was only a poor joke, not getting it means that you are more sane than most of us here ;)

Sachys: thats prob due to bad formatting - try a singular reply to each person and snip most of the quote.
Too many/few opening/closing of quotes and/or urls... Mostly quotes.

Sensenacai: I am attracted to Linux because of how much background resources Windows 10 is using on my PC and the amount of navigation needed to access parts of the UI. I might end up being one of those burnt, toasted, roasted and salty people or i might not. But i will say that as someone who hasn't touched Linux yet it already looks a bit overwhelming, speaking from my Windows-accustomed mind, and it probably isn't.

Do you foresee GOG employing some kind of equivalent to Steam's Proton or incorporating Proton itself or is GOG not popular enough for the development of its own dedicated compatibility layer?
It's less a matter of popularity and more a matter of manpower, which GOG is always short on these days.

Well, there are still open positions… In office of course, meaning that you would have to leave your current life to start a new one in Warsaw, in the middle of a global pandemic.

Well, if a female athlete from Belarus can do that, anyone can!

At least Warsaw is closer to France, than e.g. Hong Kong.

yes

To be fair distance is not the main issue here, even if they dropped the in-office requirement I would not be interested ;)

Maybe a couple years ago, when I was still working mostly in Web development and Galaxy was not the focus of GOG yet… When I was still naive enough to think the awful state of the forum engine was something temporary… Or that the relatively poor state of Linux support was something really worked on…

But now I have a full-remote well-paid job, involving the development and maintenance of open-source software. And my own software that I work on with the time I have left. So there is no way I would drop that to go and help GOG work on their new customer lock-in schemes.

Depends on their bench press results, basically.

Ok so the requirement to move to Warsaw was not the real issue here then. I wondered why that would be such a big issue for a French, but there you have it I guess.

Most of that is a matter of the freedom of choice. You get to build it like a hamburger.

I decided on POP OS.

Sensenacai: I decided on POP OS.
Well, that's basically a Debian base. But that's only one little part of it.

So you've got Pop OS!, but how about your desktops? I've got 6 installed. And you can have more than one installed, it's okay. You can even uninstall the one your system came with.

And if you're a real mad lad, you can just not have one, but even I wouldn't go that far.

So I've got: TWM, XFCE, Windowmaker, i3, Sway, and Lumina. You might have noticed that none of those were the big two: KDE (QT based) and Gnome. (GTK + Snowflakeism.)

Many Linux users reject the traditional desktop or whatever attempts to pass for it these days in favor of creating workflow focused spaces. And hey, if the Xerox Alto got one thing right, it's that you really don't need a lot of glamor to get by.

so are you already back to win or still wait a week?

I just installed POP OS. I'm currently dual-booting until I'm more familiar with my current distro and Linux in general.

Darvond, I'm trying to reply to your message but it's not sending and I can't figure out the workarounds of GOG's forum system so here was the response i wrote out:

It came with Gnome i think? I don't understand half of what you just explained bruh, at least not yet xD

It was the main issue when I considered GOG job offers several years ago. I would take a low-wage job in France over a high-wage one in Warsaw without thinking about it twice.
