Thanks for the pic. I definitely inserted the batteries wrong then as they were both pointing the same way... I couldn't tell from it where should + and - be, but I try it the same way as in that pic.

I actually tried with a couple of rechargeable AA batteries that I had just charged beforehand. I wonder it the gamepad can charge them itself (like it can its own battery)?

XInput was designed with multi controller support in mind (which - besides compatibility was the main flaw of DirectInput), but in many aspects it was weaker than DirectInput (starting with the number of supported buttons and axes). Hopefully this time they get it right.

They've got a controller for nearly every form factor, and the internally switched modes means no faffing about between X or D.

I'm looking for a PS5 controller with asymetric layout (XBox design), do you know if they have something for that as well? I could not find one. I saw a great controller by another company, but it almost costs 180€ and does not have rumble or haptic feedback. I don't want to compete in shooter tournaments, but play more casual stuff like Spidey or Horizon FW. So spending a hundred bucks more for customizable weights and similar stuff is really not desired :)

Apple. Why, I don't know, as Macs work fine with Dinput and Xinput. But yes, the sticks are good enough I can set the dead zone to zero and not have drift. Yet plenty of modern gamepads do support it (like 8BitDo), so not actually weird to expect it. lolno.

The Pro and Pro2 are wireless if you want to use them that way. I don't like messing around with batteries and just use them wired.

I mean, that may be down to licensing, but it seems some of their wired controllers do what you're asking for. Browse a bit.

Same, no drift after 4 years of use.

The Gamepad has markings on the cell polarity. There are 2 big metal contacts marked with + and-.

Will check tomorrow but I'm pretty sure it wont charge AA cells.
Hori used to have one but getting the controllers on Europe is a pain. for the longest time I wanted a Fight Commander but just couldn't get one at decent prices, ended up buying the Razer Raion at a very good price.
Pretty sure there's a Nacon branded Playstation gamepad with Xbox layout, don't know the quality nor if it's compatible with the PS5, though.

Anything that has a specific driver. While the average OS supports controllers, yes. Most companies that make controllers do not have drivers. So why is this important? Mainly due to have better accuracy. A popular brand like 8bitDo lacks drivers for most of their controllers. When using one of their pads that hosts a driver, one can compare OS to company drivers. The brand driver functions better and has proper mapping, while the native OS gets stuff incorrect.

Test for yourself. Logitec controllers have stick and bumper problems as well.

3rd party reliance is a kick in the face. Dont even mention it.

I actually got the Hori one for the PS4, read about the one from Nacon too.
While it seems these PS4 controllers can be used for the PS5, they only work for legacy games, meaning PS4 games in compatibility mode, which is quite a bummer.

Sony certainly has a way to keep their customers paying.

You are not wrong, but there are two versions of Pro and Pro2 each. One of them is wired-only model that costs ~35 bucks for pro2, while the wireless versions are closer to 50 or 60 for limited edition respectively. I've only mentioned the wired-only options because op specifically asked for wired pads. Ofc when one wishes for wider connectivity, having the options to do so is fine, at a slight penalty of latency.


Speaking of latency, it's an often overlooked detail of these controllers. While they differ model from model and even firmware to firmware (+ dongle, driver etc), wired-only pads are inherently snappier, even compared to a bluetooth pad that is wired in. Saturn and MD/Genesis usb wired pads are 1ms, bluetooth version when wired is 5-6ms which is great all things considering and bt-only is 16-17ms.

In general BT is the slowest, 2.4G wireless is faster and wired-only the fastest. There are exceptions and outliers ofc, some pads perform slightly better in 2.4G than when they are wired, which is odd.

For reference: 5ms or less is good, with 1ms as ideal. Above 15ms is junk imo.

As I said, it might be a licensing/certification thing; it's long days since the NeGcon.

Or the Asciipad, or many offerings from Hori...but that's where I'd look.

Interesting; mine was labeled "wired" but still has wireless, can't remember the price. There do seem to be loads of 8BitDo gamepads with multiple variations though. ;)
