Gurlok: Regarding the "original" bard's tale, do you mean the one made in the 1985? I'm having hard time figuring which one you are talking about due to muitiple releases/games with a similar name, sorry :/
avatar
dtgreene: Yes, the 1985 game is what I am referring to. Monks are extremely powerful in the 1985 game. In BT2 they are a bit weak, particularly late game when other fighter types can petrify or instant kill, but monks can't. They're a bit better in BT3, being capable of dealing over 2,000 damage (without magical or bardic assistance), but that still isn't enough to one hit kill many late game enemies.

On the other hand, Monks do get good AC without having to wear armor, freeing up inventory space.

I note that Wizardry 6-8 also have Monks and Ninjas who can fight decently unarmed. Also, Legend of Grimrock has an unarmed combat tree that, from what I have read, is actually pretty good.
I see, so I picked the right one :) . Never played the wizardy series, I own elminage gothic though, and if I remember correctly, there is some kind of unarmed combat there too.

Never tried legend of grimrock, but I could find some more info about the unarmed combat inthere, thanks!

Gurlok: As the title says, I'm looking for some good unarmed/barehand combat PC games. I'm not talking about titles available only on GOG, I'm fine with steam ones too (as long there is no extra drm bundled with them). Any suggestion is welcomed :) .

misteryo: Pillars of Eternity. Play as a monk. Very playable unarmed style.
Ohh didn't know that, thanks!

Gurlok: @Matewis Do you mean the strategy game? Now that I think about it, there was some kind of fighting system with your pets. I own the original cd rom version, but i doubt it will work on windows 10...

As for genre: I'm thinking more either action games or RPGs, not literally fighting games ala Tekken (well, I would have bought already tekken, if it wasn't infested with denuvo, so...).

Never gave a shot to never winter nights (I think evne 2 should have a monk class, right?), I'll try that too, thanks!
Brutal dome is a mod/standalone version of the original doom?
Yeah the strategy game. You highlight body part on the enemy creature you want your creature to attack. Fights were always so exciting I thought :)

evne 2? And yeah, Brutal Doom is a mod for the first two doom games. It's pretty insane (trailer) and does feature some expanded unarmed combat.

And don't know why I didn't think of the first time (I see smannesman already suggested it) : The best unarmed combat I've seen in a game : Batman : Arkham Asylum + City.
Lugaru and Overgrowth are detailed brawling simulations focusing mainly on unarmed combat. Very well done in that regard. Also, you're a rabbit.

Dungeons of Dredmor has an "Unarmed Combat" skill which, amusingly, is all about fighting without using your arms.
Don't forget Double Dragon!

Any genre? so beat-em ups count like Double Dragon Triliogy and River City Ransom Underground - you don't have to use the weapons in these games. Also mentioned earlier is Absolver.

Also,The King of Fighters 2000 and The King Of Fighters 2002. Or go monster style with King of Monsters

Sorry, I meant "even 2" referring to NVN2 but typo :P . HOLY COW brutal doom looks sick! with finisher moves too, that's gorgeous! Thanks for the link of the trailer, I donwnloaded 2 mods, "brutalv20" and "brutal doom 20b hell on heart starter pack", I'll give them a shot, thanks!

@Barefoot_Monkey Ah yes, I know Overgrowth, but the animal thing put me a bit off ...XD As for double dragon, yeah, good times! That reminds me of river city ransom underground too, which I'd like to pick on GOG once it's on sale :) .

@MajicMan Yeah I just remembered RCR underground! As for the others, thanks! I missed king of monsters too :)

This reminds me of an interesting encounter that happened in the beginning of Baldur's Gate II, when my fighter, ranger, rogue, and mage either missed constantly or otherwise did fuck all damage to a creature (perhaps a rock golem or some such thing), and were generally getting hurt pretty bad. Then the monk joins in after having been wandering around aimlessly elsewhere.

Bam-bam-bam, a few quick bare-handed hits in the blink of an eye, and the golem is a pile of rubble.

No problem, it's a total blast to play :) NVN2 does have a monk class as well yes, and has a lengthy sidequest for one of your companions, a dwarf fighter, who desperately wants to become a monk.

Ahhh yes I do remember him! I played NVN2 many years ago ( as a shapeshifter druid back then) and reached the part of the castle/landlord thing, after that I stopped though.

One thing about brutal doom. The Instructions say that I need a sourceport, so I downloaded GZDoom, but do I need the base doom game aswell?

Ooh it's been very long since I last installed so I can't quite remember how I went about it. I do remember that I used Zandronum but I don't know how it compares to gzdoom. I do recall that you need an original doom WAD file, so yes, that means you need the base doom game to install brutal doom.

Gurlok: Thanks for replying to my thread, both guys and girls!

@Darvond Dwarf Fortress? I'm having hard time finding this game... .
I'm not going to question how you couldn't find it and simply link the Wiki.

I'll be totally honest here: I didn't think you were talking about that one game, due to the visual; I thought to have found a game with the same name. Thanks for the link though :)

There's an entire martial art ingame: Kisat Dur.
