Greetings and Salutations,

I've been waxing nostalgic of late and would appreciate help in finding games similar to an old NES title, 'Tombs and Treasures.' Not necessarily a duplicate (although I wouldn't turn it down), but something of the flavour of a lost civilization, ancient ruins, a mystery begging to be solved, that sort of thing. If it does just so happen to involve the ancient Aztec, Maya, or Inca civilizations, well, so much the better.

TIA for any and all suggestions.

Sincerely,
RJ

This is quite awesome: http://www.gog.com/game/expeditions_conquistador

A bit of a exploration, turn-based squad tactical combat & roleplaying game.
From looking at the first person perspective while in the ruins I can really recommend Legend of Grimrock or eye of the beholder if you are into older games.
Looks like a mix of JRPG with a touch of old adventure games and Wizardry style turn-based combat. That's a pretty unique genre mix.

If you are into the adventure aspect you might like (a remake of a classic) and [url=https://www.gog.com/game/the_dig]The Dig, a real classic. They are not Aztec themed though.

If you are more into RPGs with Wizardry style combat you might like Elminage Gothic and Paper Sorcerer. Not Aztec themed either but even though they are relatively new games they take heavy inspiration from old school games so they might be your thing if you feel nostalgic but would prefer games with recent graphics.

For exploration and at least some Maya/Aztec flair you could try Expeditions: Conquistador or Renowned Explorers: International Society. The latter doesn't take itself too seriously though and both games are leaning more into the strategy genre than on the RPG.

If you also like platformers you should definitely check out , [url=https://www.gog.com/game/spelunky]Spelunky and Treasure Adventure Game. There is a remake for Treasure Adventure Game in the works with updated graphics but since the original is free here on GOG why not pick it up and give it a try? All three games are tough as nails though but you should be familiar with the term 'Nintendo hard'. ;-)
