Hi, i just love this game - Etherlords 2, but there is only so much you can do with it before its old.

Any other games similar too it?

I am aware of disciples - very good game, disciples 2 was a bit hard for my liking, you have to keep wandering around trying to find someone you can actually defeat - that gets old real fast!

Eador series - sandbox mode is brilliant, campaign is horrible.

Edit: i forgot Elemental.... its not a good game, unless you know how to make use of the map editor!

When it comes to Etherlords, the question is what you do enjoy about the gameplay? Is it the turn based combat, or the card based mechanics?

If it's the turn-based combat, then Heroes of Might and Magic & King's Bounty are the best, and they'll ruin your enjoyment of most everything else, since they are so good.

If it's the card based mechanics, something like Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf is a game I've enjoyed a lot, though being a ported mobile game, it still requires plenty of grinding in order to upgrade your cards. I agree that in the beginning, you need to pay attention to the enemies you attack, however in the campaigns that is mitigated by having a leveled up hero from the previous missions. Even so, I've always found the skirmish maps in Disciples 2 very well designed. you almost never find unwinnable battles in your starting area.

I just got my invite to the 2.0 beta and I've been waiting since day one. It's a gorgeous launcher and I can't wait for all of the integrations to be in place.

I suppose I made some basic false assumptions about what the launcher could do. When Galaxy is out of beta will it launch games from Steam/Epic, etc by launching those clients in the background? I'd love it if the secondary launchers stayed in the taskbar.

Will they be able to integrate friend lists? I'd love to have everything right there. I honestly don't have any friends from GOG because they've been lacking in terms of social space.

Overall I'm happy, but if it is just another application to be open while I have another launcher front and center than it's a little disappointing. If they are unable to do these things I hope they at least focus on growing social integrations somehow. Let me easily be able to store screenshots or share achievements.

I have heard of might and magic.... i was nearly going to buy it the other day, then i read that the Hero can command armies - that's not what i want, so i did not buy it.

Kings Bounty and Warhammer 40000 i have not looked at, but i will do, thanks!

As for disciples 2, well since the 'Easy' setting was not 'Easy', then that game is no use to me..... just another game to throw on the ever growing pile of useless games because game developers dont know what 'easy' fu--ing means and i am quite sick of it...... When i talk about an easy level, i mean the easy level was actually easy, and i could begin a new game and be a total noob and yet somehow still eventually win, and i want to end up regretting putting it on easy because now the game is 'too easy' - Hint to developers - that's a 'REAL' easy level, its not f---ing rocket science is it, Easy means easy.

I suppose i could get a cheat code for disciples 2 that could be used to 'create' an easy level?? Any ideas on that?
And desperately need a cheat code for Etherlords1 as well? Etherlords 1 has got the most broken easy level i have ever seen!!!

A lot of fights are unwinnable early on if you just charge in, which is why you have to soften them up using spells. Summon spells especially work quite nice, like Living Armor for instance. Cast it, have it get in two 60 damage whacks on the most intimidating enemy, and then finish them off in the next turn. Or just use the 'world map spells' to damage hostile groups directly. A third option is to use the thief I think, which can assasinate the leader, and also get in one/two attacks before he's killed.
These kind of things are very necessary early in the game, but becomes less necessary the more powerful you become. Once you get in the groove of it, to me at least it's the best fantasy tbs out there.

This is the part i like the sound of! Perhaps all i need is a cheat code to up my level a bit.... this would be the equivalent to playing on a 'genuine' easy difficulty where you would expect to dominate, eventually get bored of that and then try a harder level but with more understanding of the game - that's how difficulty levels in gaming are supposed to work.

Cheats for Disciples 2 can be found here for example. But I would only use it as a "training mode". The difficulty setting unfortunately does not affect neutral units. The game gets easier once you actually start using all the options at your disposal, like poisoning parties with thief, using spells and utilising defend option in combat.
As for game recommendations, it really depends on what is the aspect you enjoy most about Etherlords 2. Unfortunately I can't say anything about card based combat, because Etherlords is the only card game that I've played. However, Thronebreaker fits the criteria of a game with card based combat and single player campaign.
If you like the exploring of a map with a single hero like Etherlords 2, then you should check King's Bounty. If you want to take control of the map with multiple heroes like Etherlords 1, then you really should try Heroes of Might and Magic (personally I would go with HoMM3). In both cases you control armies, but I think you should give these games a try anyway.

What i like about Etherlords 2;

1) I like the single hero exploring the map and gaining experience.
2) I like having 'reserve' and 'active' spells and equipment. I dislike the random card shuffle.
3) I like the Ether/mana/energy systems.
4) I like the relic system. I dislike the system for making relics from blank relics - what a f--ing pain.
5) I like the different critter strategies, but i dislike the cheating f--ing evil eyes.
6) I like the maps and story, but i dislike the way the story drops my Hero after doing all that work to build it up. If i wanted to try Eileen in the final battle, that a tough shit says the game.

Well if you avoided Heroes of Might and Magic because of the army management facet, then you should also avoid King's Bounty. The difference between the two is that HoMM also has kingdom management and map control management, while KB lacks both of those, but has more in depth Hero customization(skill tree and others).

If army management isn't your thing, then you should search around for "turn-based tactics" games, such as the new XCOM game here on GOG

I did not really want army management since i have already done all that in Elemental. There was an earlier version of Elemental which was a supremely good game.... but subsequent patches royally F'ed it up.... thats a common quirk of Stardock games - patch things worse.
