OP : Are you a gamer with sons age 11-16? We need your help designing a RPG for dads and sons to play together. We're just getting started, so starting with a small, targeted population/relationship. Depending on our findings, we'll add other groups/relationships.

You and dtgreene : I DON'T CARE! DO THEY BLEED OR NOT?

Yup; definitely gonna be the next Einstein.

dtgreene: those with non-binary identities?
You mean those who are so non-binary that they play only female characters?

kristen_b: Are you a gamer with sons age 11-16? We need your help designing a RPG for dads and sons to play together.

We are a team of psychologists and game designers with the non-profit Committee for Children to find ways for fathers and sons to work on socioemotional puzzles in commercial video games.

We need father-son teams willing to spend about an hour testing games and chatting with us about your experiences. You can participate from your home--all you ned is a PC with an Internet connection, Firefox or IE, and Skype or Google Hangouts installed.

We're ready when you are! We'll be scheduling testing sessions throughout October, but please let us know if you're interested in playing this week.

Interested? Questions? Contact Kristen at kristen.gametest at gmail dot com or on Skype (kristen dot gametest); please include your names and your child's age in your message.

Thanks!

ETA: fixed typo
Do you guys have some kind of official website and more info about this project? I think you'll receive more positive feedback and interest, if people can be sure this isn't just some sort of scam or hoax.

dtgreene: Why only fathers and sons, and not mothers and daughters? Or, for that matter, why not those with non-binary identities?
While I sort of have started to understand you, I still think you're maybe pushing your agenda a little too much too often. It's like every time I see a message from you, it's related to transgender problems and neglect. They've decided their target group to be fathers and sons - perhaps the game deals with issues that relate to them or it's simply aimed at male audiences. Like maybe it's a WW2 tank simulator or whatever (just as an example). If they have to start thinking about how they can add unicorns and rainbows in there so that girls (I'm talking little ones) can find the game accessible too, it chips away from the focus. Just let them do their thing. Not everything is for everyone.

Im sure that wasn't what he meant. I understand why he posted what he did. He was curious about a few things and wanted some clarity. Is that wrong in our hyper-fascist culture to want to delve a little deeper into some of these surveys/questions?

Don't you think the question about non-binary gender identities was pushing it a bit too far? Heck I could understand the first question seeing that it is at least a bit connected to topic (survey of games played by parents with their children), but second one makes the post come of as trollish. Why does a person's gender even matter when it comes to spending time with their children?

Finally like they said they picked a demographic for initial assessment, that does not mean that they are ignoring other ones. They do have to start somewhere right.

Why you to claim dtgreene as a he, why not a she, or, for that matter, why not a non-binary identities

What huN73R said. "Why not those with non-binary identities" to me came off as "Why are you too choosing to oppress the gender-confused folk?" And like I said, this is something dtgreene is trying to bring to about every conversation where he / she takes part in, as far as I've seen.

DProject: snip
a tip for everyone - use 'they' or other non-gender specific words. It makes things a lot less time-consuming.
Looking forward to playing your game in about 12-13 years :P
For game to be fun and interesting, it should be made for gamers.

The moment people start focusing their game on "playable for fathers and sons", "for mothers and daughters", it stops being any fun.

There are many examples of games, which are made "so that every grandmother and their little 1 year old granddaughter could play", and which aren't really appealing from actual gameplay point of view.

We call those people "mentally deranged".
I bet this is not the kind of discussion the OP expected.

The way this thread title sounds I thought it's a some kind of dating thread.
