So.... i'm looking for a recommendation for a rpg, preferably J styled, With turn based battles, preferably without any form of movement. Up-to-date graphics (PS1 era style is a big no, modern pixel-art might do just to give an idea). Battle aimed but, with reasonable thought out story. Group or party battles (I recently enjoyed Symphony of War) and a not too large focus on crafting. What would this list get me ?

Before i forget btw. No console only games and... i guess a decent dungeon runner with nothing to fancy, maybe reminiscent of the old age, just fight and upgrade recommendations are welcome too.... Though..... i do like an adventure!

Not sure what you mean by, up to date graphics, PS1 big no, but modern pixel art is good?

Ara Fell was pretty good. Similar style to FF3/6.

Do you have LEGRAND LEGACY: Tale of the Fatebounds already? It plays like old school JRPG.

We don't have a lot of jrpg here but did you ever try the Legend of Heroes series? They have great turned based battles but are very story heavy and have lots of text to read so you have to play the games in order.

Probably no early 3D would describe it?

And true turn-based I guess would exclude Septerra Core. Was what came to mind, but it's ATB.

Legend of Heroes is THE BEST JRPG series once you get into the plot.

Trails in the Sky: https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_legend_of_heroes_trails_in_the_sky
1st major story arc. Slowest start, oldest, hardest to get into, but arguably the best plot once it gets going. I recommend searching out the mod to put in the Japanese voice acting. It helps a lot vs text only.

Trails from Zero: https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_legend_of_heroes_trails_from_zero
2nd major story arc originally for PSP more modern and refined. It does have some spoilers for the prior arc but if Sky seems hard to get into I would try starting with a more modern entry like this to get started.

Trails of Cold Steel I: https://www.gog.com/en/game/legend_of_heroes_trails_of_cold_steel_the
3rd major story arc. 3D. The most modern of the series. Possibly the easiest for new people to start with without spoiling the plot of others if you choose to go back and see it all.

I consider all 3 of these OK starting points. The main thing is that you start because I truly believe this series is special.

Chained Echoes is also decent. https://www.gog.com/en/game/chained_echoes
Its similar to Chrono Trigger gameplaywise.

Chained Echoes is a fantastic JRPG style game.
I also recommend Grandia II.

Grandia I&2 are good, or at least were good at their release. But I don't think either is available at GOG.

Did Grandia II get pulled?

Nevertheless, OP specified nothing "console only" so it's safe to assume that he doesn't require the game to be on GOG.

Maybe, I don't see it currently anyway.

The better part of three years ago.
Those are some decent suggestions, and with Ara Fell on a discount i might just start over there and wishlist the other suggestions.

You chaps have my thanks

This a great breakdown of the Trails series. I've always heard about it but wasn't sure where to start.

Fallout Tactics?
No movement is kinda hard as that disqualifies a lot I should think. But maybe Zoria would be something, once it is released? It is turn-based and fairly simplistic in the mechanics department (not meant as criticism). They have a demo out, and it will be released here.
