I hadn't played Civ V in quite awhile, and so thought I'd give it a try again today. Boy had things changed. Everything looked different. But the worst part was when I clicked play, the game was unplayable due to several graphical issues. So I posted a thread in the Civ V forums explaining what was happening. I got three responses offering advice so I tried them but to no avail. I finally did figure out the problem though and went back to thank those three and tell them it was fixed when I noticed it had been deleted. I figured some sort of bug or error had occurred so I posted another thread explaining everything and THAT THREAD was deleted and I got this message: I posted these on the Civ V forums so I can't see how it's "off-topic" and neither thread contained any kind of spam I can assure you.

What the hell is going on?

The part in the quotes from "I have no idea..." to "Thanks again." was my second post in it's entirety. What the hell is off topic or spam about that?

I sent in a ticket to Steam once because a game couldn't run and the problem was popping up in a handful of other games I had on Steam, got some outside help and they found it was due to a bug in the latest Steam update that was conflicting with some drivers.

I sent an update stating it may be Steam update causing the issue and I got a cease and desist letter from them stating they would delete my account if I attempted to circumvent Steam in any way (which I wasn't doing).

Looks like you just made your first post in the wrong forum. And then you made up a new follow-up thread, again on the wrong forum.

I agree that the warning was unnecessary and it's not clear what should go into which section, but I also admit that there is a degree of logic in moderating forums like this. Anyway - you should have been informed about your thread being moved to another section.

Anyway - strange things happen on Steam forums. I remember there was one thread in Dawn of War DC forum where I have written some posts. Then, a few months later some guy resurrects that thread, replying to my posts saying that what I posted was incorrect. So I'm thinking, I'll reply to it the next day with screenshots and explanations, proving that what I posted was correct. And the next day that specific thread was locked. Now, how am I supposed to answer that :-P?

They have a community support sub-forum. It's not necessarily your fault that you didn't notice but they aren't wrong. Though it is a bit harsh. I've had harsher threats from GOG moderation over lesser issues than this.

I don't think steam or the forum moderators meant to be mean. Your original thread seems to have been moved to one of the Civ V subforums and not deleted by what they said in your quote.

You seem to have not posted the first topic in the proper Civ V subforum and they moved it(not deleted) and you thought they deleted it, and when you made a new one they thought you were spamming by mistake.

In the future you should be careful to post in the proper subforum for the game you are trying to get help for or comment on. Each game has several and they are usually listed at the top of the forum pages and sometimes on the right hand side as well.

While on the topic of Civilization, I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me with the series. I started with Civ II (never did play the original Civ or Civ I). I loved it (except I hated how the AI would move a settler right into the middle of "my" territory and start cities that used to drive me nuts) and played it and played it and played it.

Then Civ III came out. And there was no nostalgia factor keeping me at Civ II. I absolutely loved Civ III. Lord only knows many hours I played that. Plus, it "fixed" the problem i mentioned with Civ II by introducing expanding borders.

Then Civ IV came out and again, I keep an open mind, do not swear "nothing can be better than 3" and sure enough fall in love with 4. I absolutely love Civ IV, most especially with the BTS add-on. The number of hours I've played and continue to play that is off the charts.

Then Civ V came out and again I keep an open mind. But for some reason that I still can't explain, it never grabbed me and kept me. According to the Steam clock, I've played it 7 hours, which means probably about 10-12 total since I sometimes play offline (my ISP is fast, but not reliable LOL. I lose it sometimes). I must have tried at least a dozen times to "get into it" the way I did 2, 3, and 4 yet I just couldn't. And today I wanted to try yet again.

The weird thing is as I said I can't really explain why, and that really bothers me. But I was wondering if anyone else had the same or similar experience with Civ V. I'm asking because I often read comments from others talking about how much better Civ V is than Civ IV so it must be something to do with me.

You seem to have posted in the wrong subforum and a staff member put the first thread in the proper one and the second they saw as spam and likely warned you over that.

Each game has several subforums on there and they are listed on the righthand side in that bluish box. The correct one you should have used was community support.

I got banned in here for so called spam, it's just an excuse that they use as most don't know it's real meaning and we have to suck it in.

I said subforum. You did indeed post in the right forum but not the correct subforum in that forum. Some moderators will get very snippy over this and each game forum has it's own set of rules one must follow. This is not steam's fault but the decisions of the moderators running each forum.

Dude, for the umpteemth time. I did like I always do, went to the game in my library, clicked on details, and clicked on discussions. This takes you to the game forum. If it took me to the wrong one then that's on Steam not on me. And did yhou see the screenshots? No I'm guessing because if you had you would have noticed that the forum I posted in IS ABOUT CIV V gameplay,. Look at the first screenshot. That's the forum I posted in. Along with all of those others posting about Civ V gameplay.

Then you need to unlearn that beahvior and learn the correct one, which is reading each forum's rules and posting to the proper subforum in each game's forum. They are listed on the right hand side in a blue box.

Once at a game forum you need to follow each one's rules as each forum has different rules. Some game's forums might allow everything in the main forum, and some might not. It is not on them to hand hold each user but the user's responsibility to read the stickied rules and post in the proper subforums.

Yes the main forum is on gameplay but there is a subforum for tech help and support linked on the righthand side. You didn't post to that, a moderator saw that and moved your thread. You made a new one and a moderator saw that as spam as it wasn't in the proper subforum of the Civ V forum and he warned you over it.
