Greetings.

I'm a person that get addicted to substances. It's the way I am. I simply get more kicks out of tobacco, alcohol whatever and it's something I have inherited. Yeah it's genetics.

Now to why I started this thread.
I stopped using snus more than a year ago and now the battle of getting rid of it is all about over. I don't get strong cravings anymore.
The problem is that a old enemy have reared its ugly head. You see I started "snusing" because I needed something to get those endorphins engaged. Now that I've gone more than a year without the craving for kicks are making alcohol and smokes looking more and more like an alternative. It's sneaking up on you and I know that full well. Hrmph!

The reason I stopped snusing is that I got Tinnitus. I noticed snus, having a constant strong nicotine pushed into my blood stream makes my tinnitus go into high gear, is not good for my tinnitus. Tinnitus is something you want to lessen no matter what. Take my word on that if you have no experience with it.

So now I'm an addict without anything to help get those endorphins flowing.

Happy pills is the last alternative so I'm looking at that vapor cigarette thing new stuff. Sudden nicotine kicks only affect my tinnitus for a while and not constant like snus. I fucking need kicks!

Anyone any advice?
Cardio?

Edit: Cardio as in blood pumping exercise.

Also, have you tried going to an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor?

Yeah well I'm lazy and hate regular musts. Training is probably my last resort after happy pills. Thanks anyway. It was a good advice. Just doesn't fit me well. :)

Edit: Why would I go to a Ear-Nose-Throat doctor for this?

Edit 2: Yeah sorry for my tinnitus. I've done that. All they say that avoid noises that aren't from your home and wear noise protection. Yeah that's easy to always have on when you work in a factory.

I don't really get the Cardio. Training?

No, just exercise. Get on a treadmill, pump weights, whatever gets you to that exercise high. It's tough at first, but it beats cancer as a self medication.

Hm. Training have always been anatema to me. The choice of smoking and shorten my life with 20 years or start to do regular training the rest of my life is a tie. It's the old question if why live if you don't enjoy it. Living shouldn't feel like work.

someone doesnt understand things very well.

As to you tarm, I would advise, but I'm fraid snuff, snus and chewing tobaccos are one of the few things I have little experience with.
I can suggest, however, to continue avoiding any advice from people that immediately suggsest any form of physical training or "postitive thinking" as some kind of weening therapy.
I'll mull this over and see if I can think of anything actually relevant for you.
At any rate, all the best to you!

Living with it since 2004 but got worse in 2011 because I wasn't careful enough. Not sure if it can get any worse than now, I hit the roof I think; no matter how much noise there is around me, I can still hear it.. Well, life goes on eventually but to anyone who's reading this: Protect your ears! It isn't a matter of deafness - it's that beauty called tinnitus/ hyperacusis that you should be worried...

I've got that a couple times. A strong clear and piercing high tone that cuts through everything and is so strong that it borders on being painful.

I'm a metal head. Metal music in all its forms is what I like. With that comes high volume. Couple that with my addictive nature you get a drunk listening to loud metal music. Drunk is important because it lowers the pain threshold both in partys, concerts and with earphones. Especially be afraid of earphones, it sends the sound right into your ear in combination with any substance like alcohol that dulls the senses.

Don't do my mistakes guys.

Edit: Vythonaut. I don't know your experience with talking to doctors but the only thing they say to me is to protect my ears from sounds not from ordinary life and that it will get worse. It seems there's always a worse. :/

Well endorfins are endorfins and work out can help. Problem is it don't help enough is something that only a few burning souls will keep up with.

While there's probably a genetic factor, I'd recommend looking at what's going on in our life.

After I quit drinking, I had the realization that it didn't really much matter what drugs I was using, the ones I used were mostly the ones I had access to and they were basically there to dull my personal pain and kill my memories.

I still have really bad days where I'd do just about anything to get a hold of some alcohol, but I've also realized that if I do so, I'm probably not going to be able to get my head out of the bottle again.

Support groups like AA, Al-anon and the various other ones for other drugs can be a huge help. Just having somebody to talk you through it can make a huge difference.
Happiness that last does not come from a container of any sort. It may sometimes seem not worth it, but, bad times have a way of passing, urges a way of fading. Addiction is a prison, it is not something that free's or relaxes (one always wants more). It is also something which can be hard on those around you (not meaning smoking really). By freeing yourself of a reliance on substances you take control of your life, and through that control you can take pride in yourself, even if the rest of the world looks down at you like a sack of rotten cabbages.

I think the best way to beat urges is to get your energy focused elsewhere, for me it is in my favorite videogames or in walks outside or a good book. Hobbies are good, friends can help, or hurt, depends if they are addicted themselves. One key is to not beat yourself up either and don't sweat the small things in life. I don't know what else to tell you...Well maybe one more motivator, addictions can cost a lot of money, and that is money you could spend on A LOT of other stuff. Worth thinking about.

Good luck in your struggle. You can do it Tarm, one day at a time.
If you want the endorphin rush, then I have two suggestions:

motorcycle

masturbation

But not at the same time. That ticket was really expensive.
It's mostly about stress, right? You get stressed and that's when you want to use,

I watched a ted talk by Amy Cuddy about posture, specifically Power Poses.

https://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_shapes_who_you_are?language=en

The point is, when you FEEL powerful (and thus not stressed), you assume a confident POSE.

But, it works the other way too. If you hold a confident POSE (for 2 minutes), it will make you FEEL more powerful, affecting brain chemistry and helping you feel better.

I can't promise it will help with addiction, but I've been trying it for a week and it's helped cut down on my stress levels.

It's also cheap as free.

hudfreegamer: It's mostly about stress, right? You get stressed and that's when you want to use,
I think that depends on the person. Stress is going to make it worse, but some people use it for that and some don't.

I don't personally feel the need to use when I'm stressed, I feel the need to use when I get extremely lonely and judged.
Guys I'm not a raving alcoholic nor am I in a serious state of breaking down completely.

I'm a adult person that realized at a young age that Whohoo! drugs work really well on me!
That one fact I have been dealing with and had various success with. Getting Tinnitus stopped my low health risk of getting that endorphin kick so now I'm asking for alternatives. Legal preferable.
What the heck I might as well start smoking. I'm not young so I'll not cut down on life expectancy too much.

Edit: Seriously how many of you guys giving advice have been addicted to any substance?
