My apologies for the mess :-)

I'll upload a small patch file that changes the game's registry keys accordingly and without much user interaction. The result will be a Steam-Free installation.

For anyone concerned about viruses or malware, I'll also provide the source files.

The Script / Patch will be done using Inno Setup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php)

Hope that's better than my first guide. ;)

Let me know if this is ok (and legal) and I'll start working on it.

Space Hulk is DRM free, but the two campaign DLC remain locked until you run the game once from steam. Steam must add a file to the registry or something like that the first time you run the game which tells the game you have the DLC. Pity. Will update if I can find a workaround for this. It's actually being reported by people as a bug on the community hub in Steam (the DLC not unlocking issue).

Edit: Actually I take that back, I'm not sure how the game decides when it should or shouldn't unlock those DLC. I tried it on another PC all together and they were locked the first time I ran the game, but not the second. It may be a bug after all. Hopefully if they are able to fix it, they don't take away the DRM free aspect of the game in the process ;p

Legend of Dungeon is also completely DRM free.

Edit: 3079 is also DRM free.

All on Windows. Space hulk was tested on another PC entirely, but all of the others were just tested by closing Steam, disconnecting from the internet, and moving the folder to the desktop and running the game straight from the executable. In all cases, none of the programs tried to load Steam. Also, I didn't run do a first time run from Steam, they all worked without Steam immediately after downloading.

They should be in this case entirely DRM-free since only during the installation finalization from steam registry keys are written (or so I assume). Updated the [url=http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games]list.
... wait, if really only during the finalization from steam registry keys are written, then it should be easier to determine if a game runs on another device or not.

Yeah, Steam definitely doesn't do that kind of thing upon downloading, the game would have to be ran first. Usually though that first time run just does things like install necessary programs, such as Adobe AIR, or OpenAL -- random stuff like that. And, all of those files are included in the game folder, usually under the redist directory or something similar. Bastion wouldn't load for me, even though it is entirely DRM free, until I installed something that came with the game. That's usually all Steam does on the first-run, as far as I know.

I should have noticed that earlier but my guess is the same. Either during the finalisation or playing the game Steam/the game itself should write registry keys. By the way, using the games' redist installation files is a great way to install dependencies on a fresh Windows installation.

Anyone know if Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or Godus are DRM-free? I'd love to grab them both, if they are.

EDIT: So, never mind about Metal Gear Rising... Apparently, you can't even play the game offline.

The online necessity seems to be a bug. Not sure if it's really a bug or just back-padeling like MS did.

Huh... Well, it's good that it's only a bug, which implies that it'll be fixed soon. Maybe they'll mess up Steam in the process and make it DRM-free. :P
