I just noticed something in Discord's preview of a link to GOG:

Didn't that say "Windows, Mac and Linux" in the past?
Are they fading it out?

They've neglected Linux for years. I guess they're finally admitting it? I guess it's hard to claim Linux support with a straight face when GOG's core product -- Galaxy -- has no Linux support on the radar.

Funny that as most of the games don’t work on Mac now with the 32bit drop. Maybe GOG has been brought and will become version 3 of the Windows store.
When you are heavily pushing Galaxy...

Not really. I've looked at archive.org and it seems they have never updated that text for forum pages to include Linux.

It did appear sometimes in the Discord previews and it still did just appear seemingly randomly an hour ago for a buddy.

I think the "one fair price for all regions" should clue you in to the fact that this is an outdated message. :)

Haha, good one. ;)
Not sure how it could be in danger, if it barely existed in the first place...;)

The thing is, I've become increasingly more cynical about this - especially about the need for a Linux native GOG Galaxy client.

Think about it - for non-native games with a native linux client, how would you run them through wine? You wouldn't be able to create a wine prefix for the game only, if it has to run through Galaxy, which now doesn't need wine as it's native. Before (i.e. now) you could run the client in wine, and install and run the game through there. Or, of course, run the offline-installed game through wine without the Galaxy client meaning the linux native client would be needless.

For native games, it would be nice of course to have a native client. But for the majority of games, the non-native games, it would actually complicate things, if not outright make it useless.

So these days, I've stopped demanding a native Galaxy client.

I focus my efforts elsewhere, like donating to projects that make Linux gaming better directly, for me personally.

That's what Proton is for on Steam.
WINE with additional fixes integrated into the Linux client.
You can even add your own winetricks and choose a version in there.

GOG still has the advantage that Steam doesn't offer downloadable offline-installers though.

Is it in danger... of becoming an actual thing? :P

Exactly - the only way a native linux client makes sense for non-native games, is if the client manages wine (or forks of wine like Proton) to be able to run those games.

Otherwise, what's the point of a native Galaxy client?

What he said. That seems to be very old text. GOG's Linux support appeared after the one world one price principle was kicked aside. Actually, appeared just when it was kicked aside for good, when a bunch of titles already in the catalog were switched to regional pricing, after those months when they hadn't added other regionally priced stuff past what was initially announced, waiting for things to calm down.
The platform list on the "submit your game" page gives things away more, and has done so all along.

It was actually a minority. Most of the old DOSBox games were converted to 64-bit DOSBox, and almost all native Mac versions from the last 5+ years are 64-bit anyway.

DOS: +/- up to '95
64 bit native Mac: let's say 5-10 years ago?

That leaves at least 15 years of games in between. Is that a minority? Poor Mac game development!
