Yes, it was known for a while to be done by Virtual Programming. I'd be interested in benchmarks of TW2 in Wine vs. this native/translated release.

That sounds disappointing. I already have a wine install running, and my major misgiving about it is the performance just isn't good enough. I was hoping for something closer to being proper native, or tuned into a better solution than going strait Wine.

I get the need for having a packaged solution, but functionally this doesn't sound any better than what we could attain on our own. I'm interested in playing it, but I need to get the FPS up about double what I'm getting, and it still sounds like throwing hardware at the problem is still the only solution.

Thinking about it I think Shmerl might have posted something about this being in the works.

Did you try to play it in Wine with CSMT enabled? It makes a huge difference especially if you have a high end CPU (4 cores with hyperthreading for example).

Ah, right :) I guess on Linux requirements to run it on max settings are quite a lot higher (whether for Wine or for this native port) than on Windows.

I see some mixed reports about this new release now. Some say performance is bad even on very high end GPUs, while others say it works fine. May be it's driver specific as well (across different versions of Nvidia driver I mean). I wonder if enabling Nvidia GL multithreading can improve anything. That feature is disabled by default.

Too bad I'm not anymore a Windows "power user", I qualify for everything else!
Actually, I've already done this kind of work for my personal use, turning a dozen GOG.com games into Debian packages.

I'm planning to build a website to share my methods, once it's done (might, and will, take some time) I'll probably share it here ;)

GOG is also weak on remote work. Most of their offers state this:

The hired individual will need to work in-house, in our studio based in Warsaw, Poland.
I think they should be more flexible with this.

I don't see a problem with that, the game was written for other platforms, so shy of rewriting large sections of code, I'm not sure what else would permit the game to run on Linux.

Also, I don't see anything wrong with using Wine or Crossover as the ultimate speed and reliability is the same as running it native. Provided of course that the API supports the necessary calls and that the game isn't receiving untested patches.

They probably can get more people like this. Lot's of companies have remote work offers these days. Moving to other city / country isn't an option for many.
