Hey all,

Looking for a Linux game in the GoG library that is turn based!

Any suggestion welcomed.

My two favorite on Gog: Wasteland 2 and any of the Shadowruns. Although Wasteland 2 Directors Cut seems to have problems on Mint 17 for me. The original Wasteland 2 didn't though (I'm on AMD, so that might be a factor :P )

If I remember correctly, the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games can be played turn based pretty much with the auto-pause feature. But all in all I think depends on what type of turn based game you're looking for. I don't play a lot of turn based games anymore. I do believe you would have to get the Enhanced Editions though for the "Linux" installer file. I don't have them installed at the moment so I can't verify that the auto-pause is still there with the enhanced editions but I'm assuming they are. If you consider them I can install again just to verify auto-pause is still available though, or if someone else here plays it that way who can verify it themselves feel free to.

What TB are you looking for exactly ? If it's strategy, I can recommend Battle for Wesnoth - not on GOG but freeware, so that shouldn't be a problem. They have a native Linux build from their site. Are you the guy who made that list of freeware games ?

Elminage Gothic is good if you can get it to run under WINE. (You might consider taking a look at the topic I made on the Elminage Gothic subforum for this.) Note that the game plays similarly to the early Wizardry titles.

Speaking of Wizardry, note that Wizardry 8 runs under WINE. (I have had an issue with the game freezing on exit and not saving my configuration, however.)

Lords of Xulima has a native Linux version. There are some things I dislike about the game, but you might (or might not) mind them.

Also, don't forget Forgotten Realm Archive Collection 2 (contains Pool of Radiance and its sequels) and Dungeons and Dragons: Krynn series. These games, while old, are turn based strategy RPGs.

The Ultima games are DOS based (and therefore can be run in DOSBox). 1-6 are largely turn based, and 5 and 6 are strictly turn based (in other words, 5 and 6 completely lack real time elements, which can't be said for the rest of the series except Akalabeth).

I played and loved Wasteland 2. Never tried the Shadowrun series. Battle for Wenoth is awesome and i loved playing it. Same goes Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. Great games! Never heard of these - Going to give them a once over! Thanks.

I am looking for something either RPG-TBS or Strategy-TBS.

My personal all time favorites would be Disciples series (RPG/Strategy) and DefCon.

Jagged Alliance.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2.

Both should have a DOSBox version.

Battle Worlds Kronos is Linux, TB, and on GoG. I haven't played more than a few minutes of it at this point so I don't have any opinions as to how good it is.

Played them both. I like Heroes of Might and Magic 2 more then Jagged Alliance.
