I have considered trying Linux to revive some old hardware, namely a low spec tablet, but never ended up trying it out. A few co-workers really promoted it to me, though they stressed the importance of learning command line, which I don't have the time and desire to learn right now, with a family, full time work, and going to college.

I appreciate the giveaway! I missed getting this game when it was first removed from the gog catalog and regretted missing it since. I'm in for:

Braussie, they informed you wrong. You don't really need to understand how to work Linux. Just run it like you would Windows pretty much. You might need some help getting certain programs or drivers/hardware working right, so get that help. As far as which distro to get. Hard to say. Ubuntu is the most popular and thus the easiest to find help on.

There are also software centers that allow you to easily install stuff listed there, but the selection can be inadequate and the entries out of date.

Make sure /home is on a different partition than base. And if you want to have both Linux and Windows installed, you might consider installing them on different drives (and maybe not having Linux drive on when installing windows)

You might consider using a LVM. Also using NTFS for a neutral third drive for mutual storage.

adamhm: The easiest way to dual boot is to have a second HDD/SSD dedicated to Mint and use the guided option to install to it to that drive...
I like this approach! A 2nd SSD dedicated to Linux. ;) Got some homework (and shopping) to do on my end. :) Thx!
Thank you for the giveaway adamhm, and Merry Christmas!

I've wanted to try Linux for a while but i think it was your many Linux themed giveaways that got me to finally try Linux a couple of months ago. It's been going pretty well so far. Although as far as gaming is concerned, I've only played games with native Linux ports so far. I haven't tried running anything with Wine yet because I'm a bit worried about issues i might run into and I'm not sure how big the performance hit is going to be. I might try running some games via Wine soon. Though i need to spend some time to learn a bit about how exactly to use Wine.

I'd like to be in for these games:

> Arma: Cold War Assault + Arma: Gold Edition + Arma 2: Combined Operations
> UnderRail
> Blade Runner
> Anno 1404: Gold Edition
> Dead Space
> Call of Juarez
> Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood
> Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
> Driftmoon
> SteamWorld Heist + DLC
> Jazz Jackrabbit Collection
> Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection
> Tropico 3 Gold Edition
> Deadly Premonition
> Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive
> Dust: An Elysian Tail
> Hotline Miami
> Kona
> State of Mind
> TANGLEWOOD

That's what i did when i installed Linux for the first time a while ago. I don't want to lose access to certain Windows only programs i might need to use and games that may not run on Wine or don't have native Linux ports. No problems so far.

I use windows extensively at work, but not for game playing.

What would bring me to dual-booting linux at home would be an postive answer to the following quesiton.

Can Linux (with WINE) do a better job at playing old games than Windows?

GOG advertises Tomb Raider 2 as explicitly unsupported on Windows 10. I'm unsure exactly why, but given the hoops I've had to jump through to get other games to work in Win 10 it might be something unfixable.

Will I have better luck playing Tomb Raider 2 under WINE?

Thanks for the giveaway, but I'll be sitting this one out.
