as i wont ever be turning chat back on, im not in.

but... i recently started playing around with Zorin OS (another linux flavoured thing). pretty nice for the most part and probably even more windows like in some respects - possibly too much as I began to use windows shortcuts and kept logging myself out or doing something else.

Still, for those whove checked linux mint and found it a bit too penguiny to transition, its another option.

think ill download the latest mint and have a chew over it later this week.
Thanks for the giveaway.

You are very generous and indeed, Linux Mint is a great system to use nowadays, been using since version 17, soon after tried ubuntu. Some people say is difficult, it's far from true, it's way easier than Windows just take some time to get used to...
Thanks for your continued dedication to promoting Linux!

Thanks for the chance, for promoting Linux and also for your wrappers, adamhm!

I use Linux Mint Tessa 19.1. I've tried to look for something else, tried a few distros after dropping Mint Sarah, but for me nothing can beat old good Mint with Mate desktop. It's just perfect. No issues, no problems, no conflicts. Just work out of the box and provides great performance and configurability for even a few long years. I love Linux Mint and I really believe it's the best OS on Earth at the moment :D

How I regret not going with Mate or XFCE instead of Cinnamon. Even if Cinnamon is more than capable to compete with Win 10 (and then some), the no-bullshit approach to Mate and XFCE seems much more appealing to me since I don't care about looks at all.

Oh well, there's always a next install. :)

Thank you, I'm a part time Linux user (Ubuntu) but almost never used it to play (some emulatoris sometimes), mainly for office use

I've downloaded both your guides:
Adamhm's Linux Mint 19.2 Beginner's Guide.pdf
Adamhm's PlayOnLinux Beginner's Guide.pdf

never considerd Linux Mint, but I also like to experiment a lot, those guides could be a starting point!

I was always trying some prettier desktops, but at the end of the day all these bells and whistles does not matter for me and I prefer simplicity and performance :)
It's not even a matter of hardware, because I always choose something much lighter than possible. I was LXDE user before. I consider MATE as a great step forward in terms of how nice and polished it is and how close it may look to old good Gnome2. If you're running a bit older hardware, I highly recommend MATE. If you're using something stronger, do not waste your resources and also take MATE ;)

adamhm: Linux Mint 19.2 was released late last week with a lot of nice improvements and my beginner's guide for it was updated on Monday, so I think it's time for a small giveaway :) All games in this giveaway are GOG games and run on Linux either natively or via my Wine wrappers.

Once again I would like to encourage anyone who's interested to take a look at my guide and perhaps consider trying Linux Mint. It's a great time to use Linux; it's easier to use and better supported than ever, with more & more games now coming to Linux. And as the Linux userbase grows so too does the incentive for hardware manufacturers and developers to support it, leading to even better support as time goes on.

And for those still holding out on Windows 7, there are less than six months until extended support ends and if you don't want to be forced onto Windows 10 it would be better to start looking into Linux sooner rather than later, so that you can learn and ease into it at your own pace rather than end up being rushed into it.

So, for anyone curious about Linux I invite you to take a look at the guide and consider trying it: Adamhm's Linux Mint Beginner's Guide/post1

+1 in appreciation of your work.

Your efforts do make a difference, in case you weren't sure. For instance, I haven't used a Unix OS for a quarter of a century, but after buying a new laptop, with Windoze 10, I am going to dual-boot (because M$ has jumped the shark, innit?).

Well done that player!
