I am pretty sure I used to be able to download the Linux main game files with the GOG Downloader, but now only the odd patch file seems to work. This is both in Firefox and Brave (Chrome clone).

Is something wrong or has something changed?

I turned to using Galaxy, but it is slow to start and slow to respond on my web browsing Netbook ... not the PC I play games on, but the only one allowed to connect to the web. So I'd rather not use Galaxy, as just too painful.

If this is broken, are there any Windows solutions with file integrity checking, for Linux downloads?

P.S. All the Windows download links work fine with the GOG Downloader.

I have also attempted to use the GOG Downloader directly in a BAT file, which is okay for the Windows download links, but not the main game Linux ones. I used it like so -

"C:\Program Files\GOG_com\GOG.com Downloader.exe" gogdownloader://orwell/installer_linux_en

When you say download, do you mean "stalls and dies" or "no prompt".

No response, it outright fails.

When they work, the links, the GOG Downloader gets populated and immediately starts downloading.

There is no prompt ever .... just a queue if more than one.

It might be possible that the API related to Linux games has changed slightly to make the downloader fail.

I'm having no issue attempting manual download.

Are you using the GOG Downloader with its error checking etc?
Or just clicking on the HTTP links on the main game page?

It is high time they outright removed the whole thing completely. It has been getting more and more broken all the time.

Please give us a link to download Galaxy .... for Linux! :-/

At the end of the day, it is just a typical link like so -

gogdownloader://orwell/installer_win_en

or

gogdownloader://orwell/installer_linux_en

Just an identifier and address ... plus maybe instruction.

It shouldn't be hard to fix or correct, and I am guessing it is just the address that is incorrect.

Aside from that it is protocols to download a certain file type, including passing security checks.

So in the case of Linux, just a SH file and maybe GZ ... though I don't ever recall seeing that last one.

The patches for Linux games are SH, and many of those download fine. So clearly not an SH file issue.

The only other possibility would be security, but surely that would be the same as for Windows downloads.

Sadly, it seems doubtful.

Knowing a Linux user who no longer uses Windows, he just downloads the Linux game files via HTTP. I know it bothers him that there is no file error checking. Luckily I guess he doesn't own many games at GOG yet, so has played every game he has, and no download appears corrupt. When you have a collection of them like mine though, you want to be sure, which is why I am tolerating, but not happy, using Galaxy (version 1) for Linux game downloads. I am primarily a Windows gamer at this point, but also collect all the Linux versions of my games.

That said, I downloaded most of my Linux games using Free Download Manager 5, before later deciding to use Galaxy instead. If only GOG provided MD5 keys to check against, I would go back to using Free Download Manager 5.
