SPOILER
But anyway, it's a good game and I don't want to start a discussion about transsexuality...just thought I should mention it since it's clearly relevant for the topic here.
Vainamoinen: I've never seen a transsexual character being less "forced" into a game than in Technobabylon, but I do agree with morolf in that this is a case worth mentioning, though I think it should come with some kind of spoiler tag.
Lao tells this simple fact about her past life to ease tension that was mounting after her partner accidentally revealed something very personal about himself. She still reveals it matter-of-factly, in just about two lines of dialog, and it's never mentioned again. It becomes just a bullet point in her past life, and no one, in particular not the player, would ever question her femininity, although she's never ever sexualized.
It's forced because it's totally irrelevant to the game's plot (granted, I might have been more annoyed if it actually had been a major plot point). I got a distinct impression that the developers included it because they wanted to make a point in US culture wars ("Look how superprogressive we are, not like those rednecks in Texas, we've even got a transsexual character"), and I don't care for that at all in games I play. But it's admittedly a very minor element of the game, and there are other elements of the game that are a lot more disturbing (e.g. the restaurant with human meat, though in a way I guess that was commentary on the end point of unregulated capitalism).
