timppu: Here we have it all (sorry, in Finnish):

So while the feminists concentrate on stressing how oppressed all the women are and point out where this oppression happens in the society, these men's activists do the same for men.

Sometimes their arguments are pretty silly (like complaining about the status of single men who can't find a woman, as if that is somehow a gender equality issue; or complaining that some fair wanted to hire young women, and not old men), sometimes they point out real problems that the society doesn't care about (like in Finland the unemployment rate is considerably higher for men than women (this is always forgotten when comparing the wages of men and women), or that while men indeed make more money, they also work much longer hours, or that most homeless people and outcasts in Finland are men, or that the women generally benefit far more from the Finnish pension system than men, etc. etc. etc. yadda yadda yadda...).
Wow. Even if some of it is crap at least its available. Our current society wouldn't tolerate a group like that. The same society that preaches tolerance except for stuff they won't tolerate. Straight white men for example. Public enemy #1.

dtgreene: Similarly, in the Doctor Who series, there is no rule (to my knowledge) that says the Doctor can't reincarnate as a woman.
He has, at least once, but it's hardly canon. Still, it's a bloody good episode.

skeletonbow: Was? How about a more controversial debate... What if Geralt is a female?!?!?
avatar
tinyE: No way. To be a female and have that much facial hair he'd have to be a donkey.
FTFY.

I would have accepted a Russian donkey.

Not only that but the Master regenerated as a woman.

I'm still not buying it's him. I mean I know it is, but the character just feels so off. And it's not just the gender. I'm still half expecting Charles Dance to appear as the real Master, dispose of Missy in some gruesome fashion and say something like "You've been wasting you time on poor imitations I see, while I was away. Let's see if you can still play with a real master!" Cue diabolical laugh. To be continued.

I hate "sexy cosplays". I know I'm making a broad generalistation, probably unfair to many, but I can't help feeling like it's mostly wannabe models and attention seekers leeching off of the genuine fandom now that "geek culture" has gained mainstream popularity.

Considering a real model wouldn't have anything to do with me even if I was the last man on Earth, I love the wannabes! :D
I was just hanging out with Andrzej Sapkowski the other day and he was telling me that nothing would make him happier than if a bunch of Witcher video game fans came up to him at a book signing and asked him why Geralt has to be a dude. Hand over heart, I'm totally not lying about this, y'all.

There is... logic in what he says.

WBGhiro: When is she portrayed as an unintelligent ditz?
Sorry for the late reply, I was letting the thread snowball for a bit.

I point to Super Mario Sunshine, when Bowser Jr says that Peach is his mother, she doesn't immediately reject the idea; she instead actually considers the possibility.

Consider if you will what sort of an impact that giving birth to a large spiny lizard would leave. This is something that one wouldn't forget.
My understanding was that Witchers couldn't be biologically female. Something about the process kills them (and still kills most of the men anyways).

I suppose Geralt could be born a man and be a cross-dresser (gender confirmation surgery is likely out considering the state of surgery with medieval technology).

What about using magic in place of the surgery? (In a fantasy world, if one chooses to thoroughly explore the nature of transgender identity, one would have to consider the idea of magical transition.)

Also, I believe the process hadn't existed before the first book was originally written; hence, if the original author wanted Geralt to be female, the process would have been different.

By the way, how many books were there, and how many of them are currently covered by the computer games?
