dtgreene: By the way, how many books were there, and how many of them are currently covered by the computer games?
Two short stories collections, five books of the "Witcher Saga" and one more prequek book published years later. However, none are "covered by the games". The games are sequels (not considered canon by Sapkowski) to the book series.

Breja: I hate "sexy cosplays". I know I'm making a broad generalistation, probably unfair to many, but I can't help feeling like it's mostly wannabe models and attention seekers leeching off of the genuine fandom now that "geek culture" has gained mainstream popularity.
If you hate the sexy cosplays, there are plenty of unsexy cosplays out there that you could show some love to.

You want to show some love to this?

The bar for "GenuineGeeks™" appears to be set so high that I'm not sure even those two ladies can qualify.
low rated

I most certainly would, fat bitches have extra titties.

tinyE: I like my Cosplay gender mixes to be more "galactic". :P
I'd let her catch me! ;-)

No. I like it that now some real girls are part of the geek culture too - and not only overweight, sociophobic guys (like me).

Darvond: Let's spark a stupid debate: What if Geralt was female!
I would play Witcher 3 right now as game of choice instead of struggling with W1, seeing W2 as something in the relatively close future and W3 as something someday in the future.

I like the Witcher series for what it is & Geralt how he is; I just stopped liking to direct male chars in games at some point.
avatar
Darvond: So! What would have to change if Geralt was female? Anything? Let the Debate Fiesta begin!
Or what, if he would be a dwarf? Or an elf? Or a drowner? Or a spirit? Or a genderless robot transported into a fantasy world? Or an alien in a science fiction world, instead of that fantasy stuff?
It's threads like this make me happy I split from the gamer clique. If this sort of discussion is what represents gamers and where their heads are at, you all can have it.

And that's the absurd end of the arguments I've been seeing.

And the best part is, this thread is entirely satirical.

andysheets1975: I was just hanging out with Andrzej Sapkowski the other day and he was telling me that nothing would make him happier than if a bunch of Witcher video game fans came up to him at a book signing and asked him why Geralt has to be a dude. Hand over heart, I'm totally not lying about this, y'all.
Yeah all nice and fine, but what did he answer? Why has Geralt to be a dude? Has he?

tremere110: My understanding was that Witchers couldn't be biologically female. Something about the process kills them (and still kills most of the men anyways).

I suppose Geralt could be born a man and be a cross-dresser (gender confirmation surgery is likely out considering the state of surgery with medieval technology).
avatar
dtgreene: What about using magic in place of the surgery? (In a fantasy world, if one chooses to thoroughly explore the nature of transgender identity, one would have to consider the idea of magical transition.)

Also, I believe the process hadn't existed before the first book was originally written; hence, if the original author wanted Geralt to be female, the process would have been different.

There are 7 books in total. The computer games are meant to be sequels rather than straight up adaptations, though the first game does have several scenes from the books deposited right into them. Probably because the game creators wanted to share these scenes and knew most of their audience would not have read the books.

Eight. A prequel novel was published in 2013.

Using the supposed logic of a few here, satire and sarcasm are forms of lying and deceitful behavior, so I guess this thread proves we're all not only crazy, but also pathological liars. Great, now that we've got that settled I can go about my day not giving a shit.

Twelve, but I've heard that the three interactive medium books aren't actually canon.
