In the UK we've had two cases where male-to-female prisoners have been kept in all male prisons and died because of this.

It is more likely a female-to-male trans that looks like your avatar will be forced to use a female toilet than it is for an abusive person to use the law to frequent toilets.

How many pedophiles and rapists are out there? Like, for every 10.000 people, how many are pedophiles or rapists? Do we ban knifes because psychopaths can use them to stab people like that singer in Japan who was stabbed by a fan this weekend? Do we ban cars because drunks can drive and kill people, which happens on a daily basis? Do we ban alcohol because it is associated with violent behavior? I mean, I could go on and on.

The law you are discussing does not mention pedophiles and rapists. It does not change in any way the legal status of rape or pedophilia. You are imagining this scenario where a criminal can take advantage of the law and ignoring the real issue which is a transgender's right to use the appropriate bathroom for the sex they identify as.

Yes, I am imagining that scenario. And it scares me. And that scenario, for me, is the real issue.

As for how many paedophiles & rapists are there? I don't know, neither do you or anyone else.

We can only know about the registered offenders, the ones that were caught in the act, or the ones whose victims managed to gather up enough courage to come forth.

And while I do not have any graph at hand, I'm pretty sure the number of registered sex offenders shot up quite a bit in the last twenty years, as a result of more widespread information & subsequently more victims coming forth, knowing they weren't alone.

You may believe this will not increase the number further... I disagree. If I'm wrong, fine. Nothing's lost. But what if *you* are wrong? Are you ok with it?

Pedophiles will take advantage of anything. Count how many news about parents, clerics, neighbors, teachers, and what have you, abusing children.
This law means shit regarding child abuse, most of it is already happening in familiar places.
Not in f'cking public bathrooms where children shouldn't go unsupervised.

Bathroom laws don't magically make it legal for men to go into women's bathrooms (or vice versa). They also don't magically make rape or sexual assault legal either.

And regardless of whether or not bathroom laws are passed, you still run the risk of being assaulted or harassed in a bathroom. Because let's face it, if someone really wants to do something like that, they will. According at least to statistics in Canada, the overwhelming majority of sexual assaults occur in the home, by friends and/or family. No, you're sacrificing trans people (young and old) in the name of an illusory sense of "safety". You just don't want to admit it. In fact, why no go all the way and launch a campaign to bring back racially segregated bathrooms? After all, if you're letting black (or white) people into the same bathroom as you, you'd might as well roll out the red carpet for black (or white) men to come into our precious bathrooms to terrorize our children.
