mike_cesara: Since it's a Gaming Store I was expecting more talks around The Subject. To my surprise The Forum seems to be fulfilled with Customers sharing their political sympathies, sexual preferences, dissociative identity disorders yet complaining about their privacy issues(!) Many times I feel like in an open Lunatic Asylum.
Now, since I'm a Horse with a Hero torso I demand to be treated that way and called Mike The Great, Mike The Magnificent or Mike The Galactic Hero, otherwise I'm off.

JudasIscariot: Give me a moment to respond...
Delayed 5 year anniversary bump!

And there was much rejoicing...
To Dear JudasIscariot from Five Years Ago:

Please tell GOG to axe the rep system. I can tell you that five years later, it's worthless, except it looks awful and is mighty annoying when posting links!

Also, make a subforum for Mafia. No, not the Mafia game series (and GOG will receive them later, don't worry), but rather a subforum for forum Mafia.

Thank you!
PookaMustard from Five Years Into the Future
GOG *really* needs to make it so that you can't receive friend requests from users you've blocked.

(Someone who I've blocked has been using the friend request system to harass me.)

It's "harassment" to click the "Invite to friends" button? Wow!

When you do it to someone who:
* Has already declined friend request from you
* Who has blocked you in chat

And when you do it repeatedly, then yes, it is harassment at that point.

Just... don't decline the friend request. Let it rot under "pending friend requests".
Post a differing point of view that doesn't discriminate, and get dowvoted to oblivion.

JudasIscariot: Hi guys,

It has come to my attention that there are a few issues that may need to be looked at and ironed out with the forum. I am basing this statement on my experience from PMs from forum members concerned with their rep and your experiences that I read about here on the forum itself.

So let's talk:

What would you like to see in the GOG forum?

What would you change, what would you keep the same?

In short, feel free to express your opinion on your experience with the forum in general and what you think can be done to improve or enhance the experience :)
You think it might be possible for GOG to delete accounts that aren't used for buying games?

Since you haven't followed through on getting rid of the rep system, getting rid of duplicate accounts would help to achieve a modicum of fairness.

Thanks!

I strongly disagree with this proposal. I want devs, publishers, staff, potential customers, potential publishers/devs, press, etc. to be able to post freely on the forum if they have an account and have something useful to say (and the latter can't be enforced even for users who do buy games).

I'd rather have the "duplicate accounts" than poorly thought out arbitrary account holder restrictions. How do you detect duplicates, anyway? I can see legitimate uses (although very few) for multiple accounts on a single email address, and definitely do not want site blocking, allowing 21 fake/spam email accounts to block access for 1 legitimate user on the same server.

How about a milder proposal: don't let accounts that haven't bought any games (or received a legitimately purchased game as a gift; not counting freebies) use the downvote feature.

While we're at it, let's disable downvotes..

Oh wait, we're back at square one. :-)

I vote we stop giving a shit and move on with our lives.

People starving in the streets and we're bickering about a fucking useless number next to our names, not even our names but a silly moniker, and we're doing it in a gaming forum!

Gaming Forum! IMPORTANT SHIT! XD
We'd better be careful! The future of the human race depends on this fucking place! XD

If you have one to move on with... where do you go? I might be stuck where I am.

Forum/account administration involves groups, and policies. Changing policy for "users" has no bearing on admins, mods, devs/pubs, etc. Every legitimate site I've ever been on prohibited having multiple accounts, and violating that restriction was grounds for termination. Exceptions are fine, as long as they are approved by site admins.

I guess I can agree with the first to a lesser extent, and the second to a greater extent if there is still a spam reporting facility. Downvoting does not add to the discussion. I don't downvote (except spam) for that reason. I do upvote rather than cluttering the forum with "I agree" posts. There is no need to add any more.

Nice of you to ignore potential customers, press, and other people who might have useful things to say,. Gog has 3 groups: employees, devs/publishers, and everyone else. Everything you lump under "etc" is users. Don't reply with "GOG needs to create more groups" because it's not possible to classify some people (in particular, potential customers or people who want to discuss a game they own elsewhere that doesn't have a forum).

As to "duplicate" accounts: that's an entirely separate issue for gog to decide on. In general, I prefer a more inclusive policy, even though I have no need or desire for multiple accounts myself. One thing to keep in mind is that people can create more email addresses pretty easily, so limiting to one gog account per email is not sufficient.
