OlivawR: I know the world is big and there are lots of idiots, but I swear I've never met one that stupid.
Oh I've met a few.

One idiot I knew once tried to weld his van seat mounting brackets with a soldering iron.
I'm torn between despising the troll and laughing at the stupid people who fell for it.

99% of people won't know the basics of computers or phones or technology. While I can't look at an electrical blueprint to make heads or tails of it, I can at least tell you not to drill it, bend it in half, dunk it in water or a dozen other things.

It doesn't help with some commercials that show 'this phone is waterproof' and then a bunch of idiots decide to test if their phone is waterproof...

Apple users often get trolled with such bulls**t.
It seems they've become the optimal victim.

Agreed.

Another rule I live by and that's held me in good stead is to spit and not swallow.

Never, ever, swallow.

rtcvb32: Although I did find the news article via drudge report, this is hardly Infowars material
This article is using comments left on an obviously hoax/trolling YouTube video as support for their thesis that this has actually happened. Just because this wasn't on infowars doesn't mean it's not infowars material. This is why people have been telling you your sources are weak; you need to do better than "one of the least journalistically rigorous publications in the entire UK publishes an article using YouTube comments as their basis of fact" if you want to select good sources.

I hope it's true, because I have as big a soft spot for schadenfreude as the next guy, but that article is not cause to believe that it's true.

I recall watching plenty of funniest home videos or the like, girls standing and dancing on card tables before they collapse, skiing down the roof of a house, jumping on top of the seat of a toilet before destroying it accidentally... With that level of intelligence or spontaneous activities, I have no doubt this really happened.

Although I would certainly like to see the full evidence so I could laugh at it, rather than going off comments only :P

Same here, I like it on fresh bread with BBQ sauce.

Apple users are a special spice of stupid, beyond that even of youtubers.

I used to work at computer repair shop, we got a lot of apple users despite not servicing apple products since we where cheaper, I have stories that would turn your skin white.

Agreed, and just imagine an Apple YouTuber, that would be extra spicy stupid.

I remember last time I had the misfortune to travel into the city, there was a conga line of idiots waiting for the Apple store to open.

This was in the middle of Winter and there were at least 30 idiots standing there ashen-faced and almost in a hypnotic trance.

It was so tempting to give one of them a clip across the back of the head as I walked past.

Your source is /. which refers to crave, which in turn says that it's basing that on the comments left for the video. It's exactly the same as the source rt offered, which is to say, uselessly unreliable. This is how urban legends start; "Oh, well, I heard it from this other guy so since two people said it, it must be true." Again, wholly unconvincing. I know I'm being that guy, and nobody likes that guy, but this is nothing more than a story that people like to imagine as true. There's no good evidence to suggest it's actually true.

Thus, I'll keep hoping it's true, but I still don't believe it is.
