No doubt about it I just love LEGO, those Danish plastic bits of joyful childhood are my favourite toy ever made. If I could get my hands on an empty room and a large amount of LEGO pieces I would play it again today.

As a small kid a stepped on them and weeped, I chewed them, I took them to the bathroom and sometimes back. I heinously incorporated my friends LEGO in my collection when they forget them at my place, but I would never ever want to play one of those LEGO videogames.

Why do you like these games?
Why?

I don't get it...

LEGO -Video-game players. Please enlighten me...

Have you tried one? They're surprisingly fun. I only played the Indiana Jones Lego game a bit, on the Xbox 360, and it was much better than I expected. Lots of movie references and humor, and an entertaining mixture of gameplay elements and little puzzles.

Also, they should require some kind of weapons permit for real life Legos. They have so many sharp edges, if you step on one it hurts like a motherf*beep* :x

BUT do you really say "LEGO" equals "surprisingly fun Video Game with lots of humour"?

Because they don't need the looks of the Danish plastic toys for that, or am I missing the point?

Ditto this.
I was too raised on real Legos and as a 39 year old man I can confess if you stuck me in a room full of them I'd never come out, and I also wondered what was with the games, but they are "surprisingly fun". I don't have the OS for the ones here but I have SW and Indy trilogies and they are just stupid fun. True you never get the creative Lego "high" but putting a Storm Trooper Helmet on Chewbacca's body and running amok on the Palace Grounds is just fun. XD

Also don't forget, they really aren't games because there is no death or game over. The only real challenge is outrunning the giant boulder at the end of Arc and of finding all the bonus pieces and characters throughout all the games.

I loved the pre-movie "original" LEGO games - Island, Stunt Rally, Loco, Racers, etc. I enjoyed the creativity they allowed and color/playfulness of the design. (Island was especially cool with all the exploring you could do.) And they were games my parents were cool with.

Not quite. Lego has had their share of mediocre video game adaptations (allegedly - I didn't play the older ones myself, I've really only played Lego Universe), but when they're well made, Lego offers a playfulness that I believe is difficult to find otherwise.

No, but the LEGO scenario/aesthetics resulted in something that's more like a respectful parody of the source material with surprisingly clever references and puns and which is both fun to kids and also older people who adore the source material. Sure, maybe it didn't have to be LEGO but I don't see how else you'd get official products in a similar vein so I believe the LEGO games are perfectly justifiable.

Ever see the opening of Lego Phantom Menace when they deconstruct the Queen's ship and the pilots find themselves floating in mid air? Good stuff. XD

Well... kinda. Because the type of humor as well as the gameplay are directly related to the LEGO theme and would not work quite in the same way, if it wasn't for that theme.

I was skeptical too, until I tried one -- but as I said, it's surprisingly good. If you're interested in one of the themes for these games then do give them a chance. Personally I hope we'll eventually get the Indiana Jones one, or at least one of the Star Wars games. ( The latter seems fairly likely, now that we have tons of Star Wars games here & LEGO games, as of recently. )

They are genuinely fun, and have their own style (for better or for worse). Also, they are generally quite cute, and funny. Especially the original Lego Star Wars games.

I like Lego. But they are VERY expensive. And i like them only when they are physical and real. My best one was that big spaceship. The white long one. I have to touch them since i was 13, though.

The Lego games are a mix of whimsical familar references, nostalgia, and a little bit of unexpected humor when they twist minor details of the story from what you expected to happen because you've seen the movie. They are fun and touch that part of the brain that loves child-like fun both with Legos and the subject matter at hand. It's a brilliant bit of fun and the games, though all mostly the same as far as gameplay is concerned (break the bits, collect the studs, build the pieces into puzzles, collect the studs, rinse repeat) having this gameplay through familiar environments with familiar characters is just a blast. It's a new way to experience the story since the gameplay is superfluous to the game. Fun, but not integral.

I think you're missing the point. LEGO has licensed a bunch of IPs to make into LEGO sets. These licensed LEGO sets are extremely popular, hence it has been deemed good business to make some of them into games. Many of these games happen to be fun, not because they are LEGO games, but just because they are good games. Do they need to be LEGO games to be fun? No, but they don't need to not be LEGO games either. Actually, given the gameplay in many of them, they do kind of need to be LEGO games, because some of the game mechanics they use are based on LEGO, and if you tried to use those mechanics outside a LEGO universe it would seem kind of weird.

Not sure if a stack of LEGOs would still get me excited, but as a kid I spent a lot of time with them. And it's cool how even adults build all kinds of amazing things with them, such as computer cases or just giant LEGO sculptures.

Off topic, why do you always say OS when you're talking about your PC? Isn't the term OS normally only used for the software side of the system, such as Windows, Linux etc. ? Perhaps it works for the hardware or entire system as well, I just don't normally see people use it that way.

That seems like a narrow definition of "game". I'm sure there's any number of popular games without death or game over screens.


Slightly off topic: People who like LEGO and creative game elements might also enjoy Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts for the Xbox 360. It's mostly a racing game/3D Jump'n'Run crossover, but more interestingly, you get to collect all sorts of mechanical parts throughout the game, and can then freely build your own crazy racing/flying/floating/swimming vehicles. I only played it a little, but I had fun with the vehicle editor, just trying out various bizarre designs. :)
