A platformer that you'll surely dig.

Shovel Knight, the award-winning platformer that devout lovers of the genre are constantly raving about, is 33% off for a few more hours. Grab it while it's hot!

Starting tomorrow, March 3rd, the game will be getting a permanent price increase. This will better reflect the free content that the game has received since its release, as well as the upcoming free update that will be added to it later this spring.

Existing owners of the game will not be affected by the price change.

To better understand the reasons behind it, make sure to read this comprehensive Q&A by developers Yacht Club.

Matruchus: Thank you for the notice. Was looking for a better offer on the game since it doesn't seem to have much content so I guess it will have to wait another 2-3 years.

Edit: Price will increase to 24.99$ as per data on developer site. Good luck with that price.
Just curious, but why don't you consider the game to have much content? It has been continually supported by the developers and is still set to receive two additional updates with new playable characters.
This is one of the best challenging platformers that came out in the last 10 years or so. It *is* quite challenging though, but the graphics are superb for 2D and the music, ahhh the music :-D . Plus: The controls are really tight. You always feel that you are in full control. It's a shame that the soundtrack is only available separately.

Not to mention Body Swap (which lets you change the gender (both appearance and English pronouns, with the two being changeable separately) of all major characters), co-op mode, and a battle mode. Anyone looking forward to playing as Queen Knight?

What an odd perception/interpretation of the terms "free content" and "free upgrade" these devs have.

And yes, I went through their comprehensive Q&A:

We want to keep our promise of releasing free content for all players.
Sorry, while it's your right to charge for it, it's not exactly releasing free content when keeping your promise comes with a price.

I guess that next time they release a free upgrade, the price will increase again, eh?

Shovel Knight looks like an awesome game but the developers seem like assholes. I will stay far away.

Breja: I have no nostalgia for NES platformers, and this seems to be the only selling point.
Other than being a very well designed platformer with tight controls? I guess that doesn't matter at all. =P

Shovel Knight is an awesome game, have it on the 3DS (physical copy), this is no "free" update, just another form of a paid DLC included already in the base game.

I am already miffed that they wont do a physical vita relase... so, this is very sad.
this is no free update, just another form of paid DLC included for free in the base game
they never say it directly but you have to pay an extra $0 to get it
what a scam
shame on you gog

i will be definitely boycotting these devs by instabuying their next game

I've been eyeing this one for the sake of it looking like the good old NES days, and with the nearing price increase (thank you for the warning, by the way) I guess I'll be buying it sooner than I had expected. :)

While my interpretation can be disproved, I believe that in this case the devs move have sense. It's a good compromise between being faithful to your previouse customers and earning from new content developed from the game.

The original Shovel Knight will be at the same price, but with a name change.
Shovel Knight until 3/3 -> Treasure Trove ( original game plus 2 big dlc )
Shovel Knight after 3/3 -> Shovel of Hope ( original main part of the game )
The other two part of the game are actually new content and can be standalone

Treasure Trove contains 3 separated part of the same game, probably priced to what Shovel Knight is priced today.
Combined on Switch will cost 25$ while the one part fo the game will be 9.99$. I hope the same price applies to pc.
In the end the game that you can purchase today won't change, but new content you'll have to pay for.

I'm more bothered by the fact the the new content will be available first on Switch, even if those content are already being developed for the kickstarter backers on other systems and should be made available there first.
Removed from my wishlist. Not interested anymore.

Maxvorstadt: Uhm what? They rise the price because of "free" content? Well, that`s not free content then!!!!
It's free for those who bought before.

Totally understandable.
Is there an "easy" mode?

For old decrepit people who can't twitch correctly.
