Apologies if this has been asked before, but is there a resource for larger versions of the images used as the game box art on the GOG shelf? I'm guessing somewhere is a public or hidden URL for the hi-res source images used there.

Thanks!

If I can jump in on this, I'd love a larger version of the Wings avatar.

When you say "used there" you mean in the background?

Arkose explains how to get them here:

It still seems to work. :)

As it was mentioned in that thread, sadly it doesn't work the same for all games

Advent Rising

Adventures of Shuggy

Awesome, thanks! I'll see if anyone posts an answer that works for every game (or which yields even bigger sources), and if not, you'll get marked as the solution. Well, that one is a larger image, just not as large as older titles. I get the same result with a new addition like Akalabeth.

I suspect that at some point GOG just switched to smaller sources for their shelf image generation.

As a side, somewhat related note, if you want large versions of the image shown in the game list (which is not the box art, I know), right click the image and "View Image" then remove _196 from the end of the url.:

EDIT:
You can also get PNG version of the larger file

It would be nice if GOG could arrange to include stuff like this into the goodies shipped with the games---I do love their artwork at nearly 100% the time!

I agree. An extra of all the site-associated artwork would be a nice bonus to have. Whomever on their staff is in charge of working it up does top-notch crafting.
Something else you might consider is utilizing the existing DVD covers. Find the cover you want at the Unofficial DVD Covers post or download the archive of all the covers.

Highlight the cover only and crop. Since the DVD covers are 300 dpi this will give you a good cover image with stickers already edited off the cover. We currently have a DVD cover for every release AFAIK with hundreds . . if not thousands . . of hours spent searching for the best cover images that can be found.

I did cheat a little on my covers when good images were not available but we try to keep them as close to the original as possible. I no original can be found than we make one with available images so . . .

Doing this for Advent Rising gave me a 300 dpi cover at 700 kb I had to make it smaller to post but see attachment.

Those are nice too, and a good source for alternate artwork as well. I am mostly interested in the GOG versions of the covers however, as I have a specific usage in mind.

Related to this, it seems that you can change the jpg extension to png in order to get lossless art. It doesn't seem to work for the box art (shown in your library), however.
