This is something that annoys me in GOG's forum. Unfortunately, there are a few users who take advantage of this generous community to beg for free games. And what surprises me the most is that there are high rep users who do this. I bet that these guys begging for games have a collection much bigger than mine, and still, they keep asking for free gifts. I think giveaways are really great and show how generous the community here is. I'm definitely not against giveaways and gifting, but i don't like people begging for games.

I was thinking about that. There's no definite way of telling where the guy who scammed is from. Portugal certainly isn't third world. And the guy has internet access also!

This is true, but i don't think of it as a valid excuse. I live in a 3rd world country and i don't pirate stuff. And even then, we have a few evidences that the scammer is from Portugal, which isn't really a 3rd world country.

Oh no, some users who I will not name did quite a bit of digging. He's from Portugal, we also know his name and IP addresses that he's used for specific periods of time.

Either way let's just move on for now. If more problems happen it's proof enough not to take him at his word, if there there aren't problems then good, we can stop the witch hunt and relax for a change, and the future's going to depend on how he acts more than what he says, so no amount of discussion from this point on will really change what happens other than the lingering suspicions.

I'd be lying if I would say everything I have is clean. I sadly can't afford that, but that is not really relevant.

Well, everyone has high-speed internet here, that makea them think they are entitled to have anything ever made. Because, you know, we are paying for internet >.>


EDIT: No point wasting breath/keyboard over this issue anymore. Time will tell if we were right about this, or this madness has really stopped and our scammer changed his mind.

From time to time I give things away, but usually not in the forum, I usually do it via PM when somebody isn't expecting it.

Contests are all well and good, I don't think that those are really a particular problem, but people definitely shouldn't be giving to people that are begging. Games are not food, shelter or medicine, nobody is going to die if they have to save up pennies from the ground to buy whatever game.

I have a stockpile of games at the moment that I'll probably give away at some point, but they're not ones that I'm going to give to just anybody, it's going to be the right time.

I'm a bit surprised that I already gave away my RoA 1+2 from the survey, I was expecting to have to hold onto it for quite a bit longer in order to find somebody that wasn't expecting it.

I think the RoA 1+2 give away thread was precisely the wrong thing. It was a generous thing to do, but that sort of thread just begs for begzoring.

You may not see games as important as food, shelter and medicine but I think entertainment(games, movies, TV shows) is just as important as food, shelter and medicine for some people. Some people need more than just food, shelter and medicine. For some people, entertainment is the medicine that keeps them sane... People don't need love to survive but I know, a lot of people in this world need love to not reach a point of depression where they want to kill themselves or a point where they go insane.

There's plenty of free games out there.

I'm one of only 2 white people in this portion of China. I can't read or write more than a little bit and the number of people I can talk to is minimal. If anybody would be in that position, it would be me.

The truth is that there are tons of free games all over the net, many of which are more than capable of sinking massive amounts of time. The games here are great, but many of them have been cloned elsewhere or have newer free analogs.

I get what you're saying, I just don't agree.

That's pretty much why I won't do a straight-up "here's the code" giveaway. Up until now I've made the barrier to entry pretty trivial, as it is with most user-made contests, but given what I've read here I'll likely return to what I did with my System Shock 2 giveaway and make people do certain tasks, like giving to a charity, to enter.
