InSaintMonoxide: ...

I'm talking about Karl Marx' definition of communism here: "In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property." (Communist Manifesto, Chapter 2)

I find this concept inhumane, detestable and disgusting. So communism in theory is everything but a noble ideal in my humble opinion.
Same for me... but the other way around. :P
Well I guess there goes my hope of seeing Griftlands release here :(

phaolo: I wonder if this means I should or shouldn't buy my missing Don't Starve DLCs and Invisible Inc in the next Gog promo..
If it helps (hurts / makes more difficult) Invisible Inc is absolutely fantastic. And frequently on sale for dirt cheap. The addon is worth grabbing too.

toxicTom: And here they say "evil communists". It's all very much capitalism, baby. That's simply how it works. People just can't cope with how the Chinese capitalists suddenly outdo the Western ones. They learned from the best, if that's any consolation...
I don't think you get social good boy points for this, buddy!
GOG censored Devotion and now this. This sucks so d*mn hard :(
pointless to continue with this economic/politic debate as it is against the rules and we cant defend our opinions due to it
so pls stick to the topic about tencent and how their growing market share is good or not for us gamers

InSaintMonoxide: All mainland chinese companies with 50 or more employees are required to have a CCP branch. That is why basic auditing rules won't apply for mainland chinese companies that list on the U.S. markets. Such corporate information is classified as "state secrets" by the CCP. Milton Friedman would probably turn in his grave when hearing you describe an economy where all companies with 50+ employees are state run as "very much capitalism". Maybe state capitalism in Vladimir Lenin's sense.
It's state capitalism, of course, like what Vladimir's successors installed in the whole Eastern block. No matter what they called it ("socialism", not communism, by the way, that only was the great promise, like "heaven" for religious people; and the "people owned company" weren't actually owned by the people), it simply wasn't what's written on the label.

The difference is, the Chinese actually made it work - would be an interesting thing to study - while in most countries that state capitalism was ruined by bureaucrazy, nepotism and plain stupor setting in when the promises of a "golden age" just wouldn't come to pass.

That of course gives the Chinese an enormous advantage on international markets - they can play the game on "Civ" level, while most companies (unless they are Blackrock and co) are still stuck at "XY manager".

To those downvoting me, just a quick *lol* - brilliant choice to shoot the messenger. That doesn't change the fact that the Chinese leadership plays the capitalism game better than most on this planet. Sun Tsu is Chinese, that should be telling enough.

Maybe they'll stagnate one day, like the Japanese economy somehow did (the Zaibatsu are practically their own little "states" with a tight rule and own social systems and act capitalist on the outside), but I don't see that happening in the immediate future. But that's maybe a good way to see China - a Zaibatsu with one billion employees.

My aim to to teach and to learn, to enlighten and to be enlightened. People who are stuck in their old black-white thinking are just hindering themselves. If one wants to keep a powerful opponent in check, they first need to study and understand them - and they need to understand their own weaknesses and hindrances too. Of course screaming "those evil communists" in forums and social networks is much easier. It's the equivalent to button mashing, anyone can do that. But you'll never master the One Finger Death Punch that way :-)

It's kinda impossible to discuss the T-Company "dominance" in gaming market without discussing C-Country plans to become an Empire in ideology, technology, and "wOrLd DoMiNanCe";

After all, like @InSaintMonoxide and @toxicTom observed, their government controls companies. Estate > Companies = Estate Willingness through Free Market strategy to make Estate objectives true. You got the point.

It is agaisn't the rules to dicuss this topic lightly?
I believe it would be agaisn't if we started ofending each other point of view, like it's common in Radical Right and Radical Left discussions.
Can't we think about this politely? I believe we can, personally.

Can't say what he mean't with those words, but I agree with my interpretation of this, which is: It's much better to understand each other point of view in a mature and polite way, so that we all can grow together.

After all, prevent anyone to say a word, even with "good intentions" as "You can't say this here, even if you're polite, just don't say it." Is a kind of light dictatorship. Let the people judge what we say and analize it through the logic process of reality evidence, humbly.

Well to be fair, GOG is about gaming, and the rules say "no politics, unless the discussion stays tied to our games". GOG's home, GOG's rules, it may be "dictatorship", but it's justified. This is not a public place. They've been incredibly lenient regarding that when it comes to issues with China since the Devotion debacle, probably not to anger the community even more who simply want to discuss this, even if it goes into political realms (which is hard to avoid in this case, everything connected to China is political).

Can't disagree. You're right.

CMOT70: My prediction for the future: Tencent will attempt a major share of Sony's gaming division to get into the console market, to whatever extent Japanese law will allow such a thing. If that doesn't work out they will make their own console/streaming solution (with Epic remaining the PC side of things). The same way Sony did in the 90's when their deal with Nintendo failed. The same way Microsoft did when their attempted Nintendo buyout failed. Tencent are massive, Microsoft EA and Ubi will probably form a loose alliance to counter them from acquiring too much, and keep the money in the "old-school".
Carlos Ghosn called, he says that just showing up in Japan with a bunch of money to take over the locals sometimes ends poorly.

Say what you will about keiretsu corruption, they at least seem to look after their own...

Orkhepaj: sure sure deny past crimes against humanity .... wonder what you want to achieve with that
Do you own research. Do you own serious research. Serious and yourself. You only embarrass yourself otherwise. Solzh has collected rumors, counted possible and future deaths and included them as "victims". There were groups interested in sources like his and supported it. True question is - what do you want to achieve with fakers like him. Bye.

Tencent has now acquired minority stake in DontNod Entertainment now as well (Remember Me, Life Is Strange Series)
