I'm playing the PC version of Kingdom Rush on steam. For any of you who played it. quick question: does doing Heroic and Iron modes get you anything useful? Or is it just for achievements and bragging rights?

As far as I remember, you get aditional 1 or 2 stars, or whatever, which you can use for skills

You're welcome. I just checked it, yes, you get another star for completing Heroic, and another one for Iron.
Also the rules change a bit, even if it is the same map.

Heroic and iron give you 1 additional star each, giving you a maximum of 5 per map (3 stars for normal).

Thing is, I never really got to apply those extra stars usefully. Early iron and heroic maps limit your upgrade level. That is, you may have enough stars to max your catapult and wizard bonuses, etc., but the map will ignore any levels above the set limit. So if you've beaten the normal game, you have enough normal stars so that the heroic and iron stars aren't useful early on. Perhaps they become useful mid-game or later.

On the other hand, if you're beating the iron and heroic levels as you progress through the normal game, those bonus stars will be useful for the normal maps. However, if you're beating the heroic levels, the normal levels are comparatively cake, and those extra stars, though applicable, won't matter much to you.

Heroic is flippin' hard, though. I didn't get very far. That said, I'm not really adept.

Another question then, I've unlocked 2 heroes now, and each has 2 special abilities. How do I use those? I can find no button or anything. Is it something that will get unlocked later, or do they just use them automatically themselves?

They're all automatic!

Be sure to try them all.

I stuck with the same hero for like 8 maps and then ran smack into a level where he was just terrible. They have different strengths/weaknesses, so if you're stuck on a map switching heroes can be the key to making it a lot easier.

Except Magnus. He's the best at EVERY map. :)

Thanks. I found a wiki that gives you info about those abilities, but It would be good if you could tell what each ability does in game.

I'd honestly happily stay away if there was a way to discover it in game. But given nothing besides a name "Shield of Retribution" for example there is no way for me to discover what it does other than make a vague guess that it's defensive in nature...

Is Dark Citadel the last level? I'm having real problem beating it. In another thread you mentioned in it requires and exploit? Any hints as to that?

It's the boss who can one-shot max-level soldiers, right? IIRC the exploit is to cycle selling-rebuilding lvl 1 melee buildings to speed up the spawning to keep him stopped in one place.

Since lvl 1 warrior are as effective at slowing his motion as max-lvl, you're basically just trying to zerg him at select spots along his path rather than relying on the natural spawn rate of higher lvl warriors.
