Sachys: But also... the archery was utter crap - no denying that.
Other than the reticle being invisible it seemed fine for me. Eventually you can learn where it is, then you can mentally draw lines from a certain bow and hand position.

Sachys: the historically inaccurate archery, armour and weapon combos, the armour itself,
I don't know what you're referring to specifically here in regards to armour. The armour seems very realistic to me, all the layers, the style and everything. They were even wearing coifs underneath their chain mail hoods and helmets. In so many movies, they skip the coif lol.

Atreyu666: This reminds me to finally try the first KCD out but I'm kinda afraid of the combat to be honest. Can you at least save manually?
Yes an no.

There are autosaves, but to save manually you need to use a consumable. There are mods, that remove the need for them, but then your saves will be marked as modded (game has official mod support).

Alternatively, you can modify game files, to avoid that, by:
• Opening the "GameData.pak" file with 7zip or something
• Going to "Libs\UI\UIActions"
• Opening "MM_SaveGame.xml"
• Finding all instances of "UsePotion="1""
• Changing them to "UsePotion="0""
• Saving the xml file and closing it.
• When asked if you wanna save the changes by 7zip, selecting yes.
• You may need to redo this after an update, assuming there will be any more updates.

I love KCD to bits, but I hate all saving gimmicks, so I "cheat" in this particular case.

In actual archery you aim down the shaft of the arrow - hence no reticle required IRL. Bows would also have been too powerful for the pitiful ranges present in game (even shortbows).

Wrong armour for certain weapons - heavy armour and catgut shredding forarms for bows as one example. Also wearing the bow over your shoulder / on your back. No ground quivers. The list continues.

There are mods for that (nexusmods).
Luckily back in 2018 games could still be modded, more modern games seem to be limited to cosmetic mods.
You can mod infinite saving, always seeing the recticule when using the bow, removing "flower-picking" animations,
making herbs more visible, more carry weight...and so on...
On the console you are screwed though....ehehehe...(is it on console?)

Thanks for the info. I might try this if I get KCD (It's on the wishlist). I hate saving gimmicks too. Or the outright lack of manual saves (the recent GOG giveaway, Mordheim: City of the Damned springs to mind). It takes ownership of the experience away from you. It's almost as if the dev/pub/whoever-made-that-decision doesn't want you to have fun!

Indeed. And also doesn't respect your time, requires you to make their game your priority, so a session will last as long as they decide it must.

Sachys: The question is - will it be at all historically accurate this time, because the first one was not no matter how much people say so.
It’s a game, so no. Still the most immersive game I have ever played. Also people didn’t shit everywhere lol. In fact a more fair criticism would be that the game portrayed the period dirtier and muddier than it should have. Also it was still the best representation of a medieval time period that we had seen in a video game up to that point. I don’t see people running around claiming the game was perfectly historically accurate (it’s a game and it’s whole RPG game design, going from zero to hero, is already not realistic).

Can’t wait! Hope it is a sequel. KCD is one of my favorite games of all time. There is just nothing like it. Hope it releases on GOG (if not at release then at least down the line). If it comes out this year then this will be the best gaming year ever. Manor Lords and KCD2!!
@SargonAelther and @renegade042 : Thank you guys very much! I'm totally against mods (except maybe graphical ones) so that won't be an option for me, unfortunately...

Reading this, I remembered having the "making of" video in the movies part of my library. I don't remember whether they tackle the historical accuracy of muddy shits (or shitty mud), but might have to re-watch that for the hype (and hopefully not contract Cholera).

Might even get the "coming soon" announcement for the GoG release later today, if it releases this year already.

Now that's how you do announcements. Keeping everything under wraps until there's something worthwhile to show is the best way to go about things, imo. Makes the wait to actual release much shorter, too.

Very much looking forward to it. It certainly took the spot of the most anticipated game of the year for me... Sorry Ys and Trails series. ;)
