Just got this e-mail from my kids' school district:
Dear [where yog lives] Families and Community,
As you may be aware, a social media hoax is being shared throughout the country about clowns attacking people in communities and other related threats of violence. This topic has taken social media by storm, and more recently has surfaced in local social media and in discussions among our student and parent populations.
Recently, we were made aware of threats via social media related to various schools in the District. The safety and security of our students is our top priority. Law enforcement has determined that these threats are not credible, but will be taking additional steps to increase police presence around campus as a precautionary measure. School will continue as normal throughout the week and we will update you with any additional information.
[yog's district] is committed to keeping our students safe, and we will take any potential threat seriously. As always, the police department and our school administration are working collaboratively to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
While we are hopeful that the post was not created by a [yog's district] student, please remind your child that making social media posts that threaten a school and/or any student may be considered a criminal threat, is punishable by law, and could result in expulsion from the school district. Please take the time to speak with your child about the importance of using social media responsibly. As always, students that have any concerns are encouraged to speak with their teacher or site administration.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools, and thank you for working with us in keeping our campuses safe.
Thank you,
[yog's district]
