OMG
Will miss him. What a virtuoso!
The 2nd album I ever bought was Tarkus (first was Cosmo's Factory). I just loved it. Emerson's keyboarding just killed. Palmer's drums - wow could that dude drum! Lake's guitar and vocals were excellent (he was great too in King Crimson).
I really love ELP. Saw them in concert in 1972 at the Long Beach Arena. What a fantastic show! And the first quadraphonic concert I'd been to.
To this day (including just yesterday) I play their songs. They'll always be a favorite of mine - like they're in my DNA or something.

I enjoyed their music when I grew up and later I learned that they were great musicians.
It's sad news. May he rest in peace.

Even I don't recognize the name, even though I consider myself as a fan of progressive rock (if that is what bands like Pink Floyd, Supertramp and Jethro Tull played).
Then again, I probably can't even name all the Pink Floyd or Supertramp band members, so maybe it doesn't say much if I don't recognize one name. Maybe it is bit like with PC games: I am only interested in the gaming content, not extras or who were the members in the development team who made the game I love.
Starcraft? Icewind Dale? No idea who were the persons who made them.

I love prog, but ELP was not among my immediate favourites, even though I have some of their albums.
Still, sad to see yet another musician from rock music's Golden Age (1965-1975) leave us.
At least Emerson made the front page in some Norwegian online papers, unlike Chris Squire of Yes.

As a matter of fact, it was the same friend of mine who introduced me to e.g. those three bands, at different times... The funny thing is that my big brother used to have e.g. Pink Floyd albums already when I was a tiny kid, I just never got to listen to them (and maybe I wouldn't have had patience to listen to them anyway).
I just remember how odd the Animals album LP cover looked to a kid, a factory with a flying pig? Much much later in my life I actually got to really listen to the tracks in it, and ended up loving it.
