It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

GOG was better because of one of this critical "features"
They had already more then half job done, why throw it away and piss lot of users?

and you still not get it, 2MB VS 225MB or hungry unreliable webbrowser. or unreliable thirdparty app.
Nope, you don’t get it. Firefox downloads all my downloads across the board, solid 4mbs, up to 9 consecutive downloads, no problems for years now. If I don’t like that one, then I can pick another browser, simple. I don’t care for, or need any third party app as browser is perfectly fine. So if you reread my original post, I am not against keeping downloader, simply responding to the statement that browser downloads are not possible, when they clearly are. If your having issues with your browser, I suggest you change it.

Honestly asking: How is it good work for people to essentially spam this across more and more threads?

Does anyone really think 1 more thread will make a difference, or that people want to read 10+ threads on this on page 1?

(And in case anyone thinks I might be playing favorites....I don't think MOST topics by ANYONE(even me) need so many threads)

What he posted was already posted in a few other threads, where such people with such stances could consolidate their efforts more easily while not "cluttering up" the forums.

(I mean do you all REALLY want to encourage people to make 10+ "I want GOG DLer back" threads across the board?)

Akka: Yes there is : several files to DL per game instead of just one click to get it all, pause/resume being pretty iffy, can't chain several DL (it's all concurrent).

With web browser download, I have about twenty different files to manage, I have to check regularly to see if the specific file I'm DL is finished and I can start the next one or not, pausing is less reliable and it's basically micromanagement annoyance.
With how the world is atm(many stuck at home) I think people can more easily watch their DLs(well unless they have very slow DL speeds, perhaps).

Also as to a few extra clicks: as said above we have a pandemic going on....is a few extra clicks that bad compared to that? And is it a big problem to anyone normally even without that going on?

Such fickle loyalties some of you have....don't get one thing and suddenly it's "This site/company is terrible! I'm never coming/buying here again!".

Most of us use/have a browser anyways, though....so for such people they already have a browser so why not use it(with extensions for downloading such)?

To make some of you angry for no reason, obviously.

(That silly line just now is still likely how some here feel about it, though)

Some change their browsers for other minor reasons(or DL extra ones on the side), so some could likely do it for this as well if their current one doesn't work well with GOG(though I wish browser makers would standardize some things to make sites work good in more browsers, etc).

It's 70MB, NOT 70GB......do y'all have ancient 100GB HDDs that a few extra MBs matter that much?

Also the GOG DLer could also be seen as an unnecessary third party(in a way).

Thank you for the thread, interesting

Indeed as you should, and one of the big benefits of browsers over clients in general. I have 3 currently installed, Firefox, primary, chrome for certain downloads which are done in memory, epic privacy browser which I am testing. Not too mention safari on the iPad. There are a vast ra he of browsers available, and some are more useful for certain tasks more than others. The problem I had was purely with the statement that all browsers are bad, memory hogs and do not work. Which is simple untrue, and leads those of us who use browsers to download all the time, for many years, to not want to support downloader.

It is just one of important metrics , just to show casual users whats going on,

i will not talk about code optimizations it beyond scope of most gamers anyway

I will repeat it again from other thread, you don't use big Excel to count - for example 666*666!!
You use simple calc app!!
You don't need battle axe to cut bread!!!!
.....

And you don't need neighbor swiss knife when you can have your own Kitchen knife!!!

It is nice how you avoid that third party section!

Since you are still using this analogy, then I will use the same as well. You do not even need that calc app, you can just use your browser

True enough, BUT if one hasn't got a "knife" that "axe" will work for one's needs if nothing else is at hand.

What do you mean by this? Could you explain a bit more clearly and explain what you meant with this bit?

Just out of complete spite, I'm thinking of posting GOG downloader alternatives just so people stop getting their knickers in their twist. Sure, you might need to know how to activate a python script, but it really isn't that scary.

The GOG Repo program. This one has existed since 2015. You've had ample time to look into it.

The LGOG Downloader. Existent since 2012.

Comet, a tiny version of Galaxy for Linux.

MinGalaxy, more of the same.

Lutris, an open gaming platform.

And there's probably more. But to this point, I've illustrated things nicely: Alternatives exist. Use one.

If your web browser is "hungry and unreliable" get a different browser.

GOG Galaxy is great. They don't need to support it and downloader. It's not resource intensive in the slightest. 225 MB, oh my. That's so much space to take up on my laptop that only has 4 TB of storage. Oh, wait, no, it isn't.

If I wanted to get, for example, Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 and Kingdom Comes Deliverance, I needed only to click on three links with the GOG Downloader, and I could pause and resume with a single click. Basically, I click three times, then I can forget it until it's done.
With web browser download, I have about twenty different files to manage, I have to check regularly to see if the specific file I'm DL is finished and I can start the next one or not, pausing is less reliable and it's basically micromanagement annoyance.

amok: https://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
I did try Free Download Manager, but it does have the problem reported above, that it starts all downloads at once, instead of downloading the files one at a time, like the GOG Downloader did. Moreover, the GOG Downloader automatically created a separate folder for every game. It's nearly not as convenient. Neither is Galaxy, which is bloatware with all the social options, when all it should do is just download.
