Doesn't GOG have the money for extra/better download speeds
or
the download service company doesn't have the money and/or hardware to provide additional/better download speeds?
Which of these reasons is true?
Or is there another reason?

No offence :)
I'm just asking politely :)

I'm just wondering if it's a matter of money?

I'm patient :)

I am usually getting download speeds at around 24 Mbytes/s = 192 Mbits/s (downloading offline installers with a web browser; I don't use Galaxy normally so no idea if I'd get any different download speeds there).

I've been happy with that speed so far, but since you mentioned it, how much should I be getting? (I think I have a 600Mbit/s cable modem connection but it has several users on it most of the time, e.g. my two sons are both playing Team Fortress 2 on it at the moment on two separate laptops, my wife is streaming some online movie to her phone etc.).

I think I'll test later today what I am getting on Steam and EGS, and maybe even Origin and UPlay, just for reference.

Hi.
I am downloading The Witcher 3 - complete edition and i am getting such speeds (see attached image)
Total download speed is less then 8 MB/s
Not bad :)

Just to be clear, my connection allows up to 60 MB/s.

Are you using a direct connection or a 10 year old wi-fi router?

I may not understand what are you asking for.
My connection is on a 10 (or so) gigabit ethernet cable plugged into router and from router to wall :)

I attached picture with speedtest results.

You realize your connection is about 70x faster than mine?

I'm not sure if it's GoG, or gateways that are in the way, or if it's something else, but your internet is above and beyond normal.

I'd consider myself normal, the lowest/cheapest plan possible to get all the features i think i need (which is 10Mbit or so), and it's difficult to get decent internet under $50/month. So i have no idea what you're paying, or if you're just getting it free (from business use or family). At those speeds i'd call you spoiled.

Though i still get certain downloads at 5k/s.
Have you ever tried to restrict your downloads to a maximum of (say) five GOG game files at the same time?

I always download five files at the same time, and as soon as one of them is completely downloaded, I add another one, so that I have constantly five files "in the pipeline".

That works pretty well for me, and spreads my available downloadspeed (in MB/s) evenly among those five files.

If I try to download more at once, my speed also drops to KB/s, as shown in your screenshot.

Then why the question? ;)

BreOl72: Then why the question? ;)
I was borred waiting for my downloads :)

And yes, i tried downloading one file at a time.
It does not matter.
It seems that gog or something between me and gog does not allow for higher speeds :)

Sorry to hear that.
I hope that you will be able to get better speeds in a near future.
I wish you all the best.

I finished downloading :)

I downloaded english and polish versions of The Witcher 3 - complete edition.
Total size is about 124 GiB.
It took me about 6 hours to download

Mine is similar, and is usually fully exploited during GOG games download (not using Galaxy nor a Web browser, but LGOGDownloader).

But sometime I get a much lower speed for one or two files, while other files keep going at full speed. I never really investigated why, because I planned automated nightly downloads so I do not really care about the time they take.

Only if i have enough disposable income it feels like i could afford it. Which i don't see happening any time soon.

Well, that definitely shouldn't be the case.

Maybe.
For whatever it's worth, I gave the "The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt" files a go, and my dl-speed appears to be normal.
So, I guess it's not something "globally" affecting all users.

Not that that info helps you much.

Here, in France, it is far from being the highest speed you can get. The 60MB/s (~650Mbps, symmetric) I get is the cheapest that was proposed by the ISP I use (~35€/month).

But in the USA it looks like the ISP are mostly rubbish, I do not envy your situation.

Since 2 weeks I've been trying to download Baldur's Gate 3 - offline installers, I don't want to use Galaxy. The download speed is 100 kb/s at best !!! And it's the same with any games I was trying to download. I was trying different browsers, VPNs, nothing works. Download speed from Steam or Epic is 30-40 MB/s...

What is going on?
