I like my emu10k1 for its hardware mixing, wavetable synthesis and gameport, but soundfonts larger than about 12M are problematic on systems with more than 2GiB of memory. I hear emu10k2 has an alternate addressing mode that works now, but if theres one in emu10k1 it's not supported by Linux.
Do you use the wavetable synthesizer and may I ask how you're dealing with it? I map out all the physical memory between 2GiB and 4GiB, but this costs me two gigs of memry and I wonder if theres a better workaround short of patching the kernel to restrict DMA32 to the lower half. I don't want to maintain my own kernel anymore...

Rixasha: EDIT: On second thought, it would still require pulseaudio, which was the problem. Myself I run mostly ALSA on emu10k1, but also keep Pulseaudio running for all the software that needs it.

Nice, but I am of no help to you... I got the card from completely different reason, its PCI 3.3/5 volt - since I use Supermicro board, it has no onboard and accepts only PCI 3.3v. Because long ago I had SB16Pro and remember its outstanding SNR, I got the card used for ~$20.
Had to solder 3.5mm jacks for stereo/record to regular front panel though, because my card accepts only proprietary Creative interface (which connects only to Creative front panel), but not regular FrontAudio connector.
As of music, although I do have EZ-220 and only learning to play with two hands, I use midi wavefont as consumer in Dosbox and load the old SFs from creative - CT4MGM and 8MBGMSFX, since they sound "properly" in Timidity :)
Also, I just found this of direct2alsa vs lowest quality pulse resampler ([url=http://archimago.blogspot.de/2015/10/measurements-look-at-linux-audio-alsa.html]here is full article).
So I still don't understand people who re-invent pulse from dmix (unless its embedded device with serious resource limitations).. direct alsa access only gives advantage if producing/transporting audio, and even then, there is JACK and Pulse can connect to JACK sink, so all applications that can only utilize Pulse, will seamlessly output through JACK and then to Alsa. But its just me.
I would actually wish I had even this one. Would have one (and only) PCI slot free.. ^_^

Mostly just DOS games configured for General MIDI music, running in dosbox without extra hassles. I recall I was also happy to have it when running System Shock enhanced on wine, but forgot why.
So really nothing that a software synthesizer couldn't do but it's there and it works. Mostly. I'm also irrationally attached to the card as I've had it in every pc I've owned.

I have a regular front panel with AC97 female, which is completely incompatible with it. So to connect regular front panel to SB0100, I had to solder ... IDE cable female(with pins inserted to make it male) to 2x 3.5 cinch male, which I connect to reverse of the card... Do you any chance know a solution that converts AC97 male to cinch 3.5 male?
I heard Dell customers have even more "fun"...

No, I never had that and only use the connectors at the back. I briefly looked into if I could use the casings own connectors somehow, but gave up on it.
I did connect the motherboards pc beeper pins to the card since its more pleasant than an actual beeper and has a volume control, but nothing really beeps anymore..
