Why won't you guys bring some more over to GOG, would love to see more here :)

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and Grandia II are the ones I can think of.

I wouldn't recommend the Hyperdimension Neptunia serie. It started great untill I realized there wasn't any significant change from episodes to episodes and the visual novel narration grew tiresome rapidly, I feel like. I enjoyed the first episode at last, it was funny and felt fresh due to its setting at least.

How good are Zwei and Zwei Zwei(lol) ?

I've heard great things about the Trails serie and Tokyo Xanadu Ex, though I'm less sure the last one would please me.

I've recently played Mary Skelter : Nightmares which I also did not like due to its visual novel presentation (some sequence were too longs right from the start.)

It's not a "JRPG" in the sense it wasn't developped by a Japanese dev but Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator, while old (1999) isn't bad at all, and as you can see from the Artstyle, it's inspired by JRPGS. It's at -80% during the sale. For a buck or so, it's a good deal.

All of those games are good, and so is Gurumin, and so are the Ys games, all of which were made by the same developer.

Oh. Well that's comforting then. I loved Gurumin and wanted to get Zwei 2 for a while. The Trails serie feels like a massive investment of time though, every person loving them said there's plenty to see (especially in the evolution of NPC background which I find interesting). Time, I need time !

Zwei 2 is very similar in both tone and gameplay style to Gurumin. Zwei 2 is a more refined version though. So if you loved Gurumin, then you'll probably love Zwei 2 also.

Yes it is true that the Trails games are a massive investment of time. And yes, they are huge. And yes, the NPCs have tons of things to say. Every NPC who you can talk to in any of those games are given new & updated dialogue after every time a new story event occurs in the game world. Very few other games do that.

They are worth the time. If you don't have that much time, then could always play them little by little. They do have save game features, after all.

Ditch neptunia games: devs have stopped updating and added missing content from the steam counterpart. Also the games are region locked in japan while this is not such the case on steam.

I would like to see more JRPGs here on GOG ^_^

If it counts, there's also Elminage Gothic.

(The game plays more like Wizardry 1-3 than like a modern JRPG.)

Do people still take break while playing long RPGs ? I'd be afraid to have to take too many notes to not be lost upon return :p Beats me, I usually mute the voices as I lose interest in the plot very quickly then proceed to play in autopilot while listening to podcasts. I tried too hard to like Compile Heart and Ideas Factory games for too long.

You simply aren't going to find many on the pc period due to most japanese companies not seeing the pc as a viable market, and a lot of what does actually get released is unlikely to come to gog due to the lack of interest in a drm free release not to mention gog's wacky random ""curation"" policies would probably reject a significant number of japanese game for no apparent reason anyway.

Select Japanese voice, not English. Select subtitles. Turn down volume. That worked for me anyway. It is a problem with a lot of Japanese games though, come to think of it, it's also a problem with Japanese porn as well.

Skip the first Zwei. The dialogue is fine enough, but the actual gameplay is straight up garbage. Zwei II is much more playable, though I personally felt meh overall.

Octopath Traveller just released on Steam. The aesthetic is pixel art in the style of Final Fantasy VI, but modernized. Don't know personally if the game is any good, but other folk had a very good time with it. There is also Dragon Quest XI, which also got plenty of accolades.

Both games are laden with Denuvo, but that is a matter for you to determine if it is important.


EDIT: Also, there is Ni No Kuni and a number of Tales games on Steam without DRM. If you haven't already, give Undertale a shot. Not quite the same as traditional turn-based RPGs, but very good at what it does.
