Upon further research, it seems more than just the blood was censored in the Steam & GOG version of Night Slashers. Here's is a website that outlines additional acts of censorship that are also present too:

If i understand this article correctly, all versions feature options to switch between "soft" and "hard" violence. Since the gog release contains the actual arcade rom, there might be a way to actually switch it.
So many nice new missed sales! Onto the wish list.

Doc0075: Just played Saboteur and you get to choose between the Spectrum and C64 versions of the game from the menu.
Still a fun game today, even though the dogs are a pain in the arse.

WinterSnowfall: Thanks for the feedback. I don't suppose you get the MS-DOS version as a bonus or anything, right? I mean as a separate downloadable bonus, GOG style.
No, just the Spectrum and C64 versions.

Hopefully someone who is an expert in these matters can confirm for sure whether or not there is any way to make the GOG version become 100% uncensored.

But based on the comments I've seen so far about this newly released version, that doesn't seem to be possible.

The comments you have seen so far are correct. I just dissected and played around with the rom a bit. Interestingly, it is the Korea Rev 1.3 version. I compared the setting with the japanese version and the option to change the violence level between soft and hard is not included in the Korea Rev 1.3.

Oh my, what horrible news! Thanks for posting it though.

Guess I have to pass on this game since Ziggurat botched it so badly by publishing the most crappy version possible, instead of the original good uncensored version.

I sure wish Ziggurat would redeem themselves and make this right. But no sense buying the butchered version of the game on the faint hope that they maybe possibly might make it right one day. What a shame!
Maybe another one of those cases where the rights to the original as well as the localised versions lie with different rights holders. Ziggurat may have been able to only secure the rights to the US and the Korean version.
Saboteur brings back memories, frustrating ones.

I will definitely get the Samurai collection though, I haven't played them but they look fun.

I suspect that the reason they included the korean rom is much simpler than that. The japanese, US and oversea versions of Night Slashers were all Rev 1.2, so my guess is that they just went with the most current version, which would be the Korea Rev 1.3, which just happens to be censored.
Would be lying if I said I ever heard about any of these games. But many seem to have fond memories of them and any "new" old releases are always welcome.

karnak1: Everyone who loves excellent RPGs and strategy games should buy them while still available. God knows what the bastards from EA will do with it :(

Thanks. Missed the announcement thread. At $1.5 a pop, it's a no-brainer picking them up, just to be safe. Even if they return, they will 99% receive the accompanying price bump like it happened several times with other games recently.

InSaintMonoxide: Also, Ms. Pac-Man is from 1982

VanishedOne: Good point. The earliest I found after some Googling is https://www.giantbomb.com/female-protagonists/3015-2287/ -- it suggests Lady Bug (October 1981) was first of all.
https://www.mobygames.com/game-group/protagonist-female/
Moby Games currently has it as Kid Venture from 1980 if you don't count ELIZA programs as games. They do count ELIZA from 1966 as ELIZA is generally presented as female. There are also games that haven't been inventoried with enough detail meaning there could be some or a lot of female protagonists missing (complicated by the complete loss of some programs from before 1980).

The comment could be related to the idea that it does seem to be the first female ninja (maybe).

Looks fun either way.
I just had a look at the new Ziggurat arcades and realized that Dark Wizard is in fact Dark Seal II. Looking forward to be bad at it.
I wonder how Ziggurat managed to get their hands on the rights for so many old games so quickly. They must have some elite team of lawyers digging up all that stuff.
