Yes, this is about Starfield the cat, starring Jon, Odie, Lyman, Liz, and Nermal.
I wince every time I read "NASApunk" (in any combination hereof.)
NASA is not punk, it is the inverse of punk, being a governmental entity. It as an organization is not about a classism struggle, a counterculture, nor a rebellion against a system. They are a system.

Call it NASA Chic or NASAGroove, maybe NASAwave if you can't help yourself. NASA Deco?

This also applies to "Atompunk", and "Steampunk". Especially Steampunk, seeing as they think themselves smart, dressing up as the Victorian upper class with additional greebles. Nobody in SteamScene dresses as a pauper.

Raygun Gothic was a real style, and that sounds cool as heck.

What would "NASApunk" suppose to be? I don't think I ever saw that name, and from the name, I can't imagine it.

I imagine that people who dress up as Steampunk like pretty clothes and fancy accessories. Poor people do not have any, and I imagine they would not look different from poor people during the historical Industrial Revolution. So, really, they add nothing to the setting and don't allow much for expression or singularity.

I guess you don't wince very often then, because this is the first time I ever encountered the term.

I feel so tired: Starfield ?

Would Star Trek Enterprise be "NASApunk"? I always felt the designs of everything were very "reverse engineer Trek to feel like NASA"

NASApunk is a term made up by Starfield marketing to pump up their mediocre game.

First time I ever heard (well: read) that term.
shrug
But what about "Dieselpunk"?

cose_vecchie: But what about "Dieselpunk"?
Does it have tones/themes of underlying oppression, being against the system, or counterculture?
As far as I know, "steampunk" refers to those punks who refuse to buy a game if it isn't released on Steam.

I've seen some gogpunks as well, but I don't call myself that as I have occasionally bought games elsewhere too, at least if they are DRM-free there too.
Arcanum is pretty steampunk in that the subplot is about an oppressive conspiracy and you can start a working class riot.

But yeah, the -punk label has been appropriated by Bethesda for marketing purposes, and while I haven't played Starfield, I can readily tell you that their previous games are pretty much corporate approved "sell you a product, not an idea" milquetoast schlock.
why would you take away the right from nasa employee's affiliates enthousiasts to display a dark side now and then and call it punk ? i don't get you
NASA can be pretty rock & roll though. I mean, consider the way they fixed stuff with duct tape in Apollo 13.

The term is probably as offensive to NASA as it is to gamers.
In my completely uneducated, uninformed, and un...whatever-other-"UN" you want to attach to me... opinion...

"Punk" (to me) implies a counterculture or sub-culture cast against a higher standard. Whether cyberpunk, steampunk, biopunk, etc. -- the implication seems to be that there is some sort of "higher authority" (politically, religiously, and/or technologically) that the "punk" culture is cast against.

To me... "NASA-punk" would be something along the lines of: Yes, there's some level of "checks and balances" for "authorized" space exploration in the sense of: I want to make this change based on a completely uneducated hunch, but... oh, look at that! I've got funding (which may or may not have been provided by sleeping with and/or bribing some people along the way), so let's just try it and see what happens....And I'm blasting off to Jupiter in something between a tin can held together by duct tape and Super-Glue or a fero-fiberous hyper-carbonate lithium-alloy shell -- which is entirely based on my political and social affiliation throughout the game.

Oh I heartily disagree with Steampunk not being punk

A lot of Steampunks segued from Goth or other alternative cultures

At its heart was a maker community and very anti commercialisation

As a culture it was highly aware of the injustices of the era it took influence from and often highlighted that many are still prevalent today

And as for no Steampunk Paupers, I've seen plenty of street urchins, pirates, vagabonds, buskers, and other colour characters

EDIT:
If you can find PDF's of the "Steampunk Magazine" that was written during the rise of the Steampunk movement, have a read of them. They were seriously Punk
