OneFiercePuppy: LIFO, again.
Last in - First out? What do you want to say with that?

avatar
OneFiercePuppy: Of course metals lose strength gradually as they're heated. But what's important isn't the rate of decay, but the critical point at which a support mechanism is so weakened that it not only cannot support itself, but also overburdens neighboring supports. That's why collapses happen so quickly, controlled or otherwise.

The phrase you're looking for is lateral shear, and it's well-covered in the NIST analysis. But you could also look it up separately if you'd rather hear from someone else how shear forces work.
You mean a normal, fast collapse like this: Steel Frame Building Collapse? Sure, it's a smaller building but the principle is the same.

avatar
OneFiercePuppy: Nothing about that collapse is free fall. First, you see weakening on one side of the building; then, the penthouse begins to visibly collapse. As it collapses, it pushes on the structures below it, and pulls in and down on the structures beside it. Internal collapse is in full swing when the outer walls begin to fall, and since the whole point of a building is that it's all connected, once collapse starts, it propagates rapidly. Would you call a stack collapse free fall? You'd be wrong if you did. [url= Well, I suppose with a truly perfect implosion where it went straight down, that might be free fall. I don't know. But the reason stacks break into pieces when they collapse is because their fall is
exactly NOT free.][/url]
As the video shows the main part of the building falls symmetrically for a couple of seconds. Shear forces would rather result in the building collapse distorted if at all because the fire was not in the whole building but a rather small part.

avatar
OneFiercePuppy: Again, nothing new or interesting. Slow day, so did go ahead and watch both your videos. The second one isn't terrible. Of course, it's got no substance. There's really no topic where you can't find someone with appropriate credentials to disagree. But, relevantly, there's been a lot of peer review supporting the official findings. Got any for the conspiracy side?
Did you watch the complete lecture by Daniele Ganser complete? Then why is there no substance in you opinion and what would you call substance? But you are right about the sheer number of experts who argue for the official version. While there so many who speak for the US government, there are only 2200 architects and engineers who are confident that the official reports doesn't answer all questions.

avatar
OneFiercePuppy: There's plenty to compare between this and the antifluoridation nonsense. Both are conspiracy theories based on rejecting overwhelming evidence to the contrary, propagating baseless conjecture which relies upon the credulity of the audience, and making claims which are inherently not falsifiable. (EDIT: Oh, and forgot the most important one - distrust of authority. Silly me.) Just because you're sympathetic to one and not the other doesn't mean you've nothing in common.
After I looked what this "antifluoridation" is about I'm even more convinced that this is an unfair comparison. Also I might be naive and biased as you imply but the same could be also said about you.

Anyway, you already have made your judgement therefore I'm not trying anymore to confront you with a different point of view.

OneFiercePuppy: Nah, rt, the whole reason I bothered after the first post was because you've demonstrated in your post history here on GOG that you know how to look at a problem and propose solutions. I've tried to point that out a few times to let you know I'm not coming down on you personally, just the quality and type of argument you're producing here. You're not incapable of critical thought or problem solving, your arguments here (and briefly in that other thread) just don't indicate you using those skills very well. You've often posted helpful stuff in various threads, as I recall (pardon me for doing the poor research here, now), mostly IT related.
I've said it before, I'm not a historian, I suck at history. And I do try to be as helpful as I can. But WAYYY too much doesn't add up. Because those things don't add up mean there's something wrong with it all. For decades there's been proof that the media is controlled by the government, all the news outlets are too.

Out there is commercial brainwashing. You have to see something about 500 times before it starts to stick, this is often with commercials and product placement. This is why Pepsi or other commercials pop up so much, not because one commercial will convince you to get it, but because if you see it enough times that's what you'll think of when you buy something. Also that 30% of TV is commercials and ads.

Following commercial brainwashing to the news and what we're fed by the media, if you're told something enough times, you'll believe it is true no matter what it is. This is actually how brainwashing works. Every news outlet is spinning that Trump has already lost and is an idiot and the like. And you know I sort of believed them a year ago; But I saw a very short clip recently where at a rally where they were calling down Trump, and it was said Trump had a plan of what he will do to try and turn things around and start to fix things and it was publicly posted. And damn if it doesn't look promising, no one else has submitted anything at all; Elections so far have been on lies and broken promises. The lies are so blatant now that it's important to focus and get attention while it's obvious. Rigging polls and warping perception when things are close is one thing. Overturning things trying to say black is white, is another. The press is actively putting words into Trump's mouth before he even gets on stage now. You need to see the coverage to see the obvious truth that they are lying.

Calling it all a conspiracy is part of normalcy bias. I have it, you have it, we all have it. We decide something, and then consume media/reviews/comments/etc confirming that very bias and refuse to accept other information on it. You know, I hated the new Ghostbusters movie. Still hate it. The trailer alone had such an impact on my impression that I won't see it. Then there's reviews, where if it was positive I wonder if it was paid off, but then there's a few who cover it who say it wasn't bad, while others say it sucked. I naturally gravitated towards the ones that said it sucked, still I watched them. I said at the beginning, to try and look at it with an open mind. To look at it all because your bias to immediately assume it's wrong is getting in the way of seeing what's important right now.

OneFiercePuppy: No, still not a problem. The 7 building was the only other tall, narrow one, and the building collapsed after the others had fallen down and heavily damaged the foundation area a few seconds in free fall which means without any resistance. According to the architects and engineers a steel building can only collapse in such a way, when every part that carries the building breaks away at the same time. Also does steel not lose its strength instantly.

OneFiercePuppy: This reminds me a little of a couple...

This brings me back to the time when I used to read conspiracy theories for laughs.

This thread is pure gold.

Well, I guess everyone has the right to belief what he wants. Like for example Immaculate Conception, 72 virgines or that the reasons for the War on Terror and the invasion of Irak were totally legit...

Hey, you want get TV-real about 9/11? Look no further than the pilot episode of The Lone Gunmen (The X-Files spin-off), aired in March 2001, with the plot as follows:

While the Lone Gunmen are thwarted in their attempt to steal a computer chip by Yves Adele Harlow, Byers receives news of his father's death, and the trio soon find themselves unraveling a government conspiracy concerning an attempt to fly a commercial aircraft into the World Trade Center, with increased arms sales for the United States as an intended result.

The only logical conclusion- X-Files is The Truth, teh aliens are coming, and we need to stay away from the bees! They carry the alien plague!

LOL

Using as a source on Trump and Hillary news a website whose chairman is also Trump's campaign chief was hilarious enough, but now we also have vaccine paranoia?

You're just shooting in every direction, aren't you?

That doesn't prove X-Files is real, it just proves that the US government is unimaginative and is stealing all their ideas from science fiction. Just wait until they release their brand new robotic police officer in Detroit.

I haven't read anything in this thread, but you know it's bad when you rather listen to Alex Jones than The Young Turks.

As a general rule, never believe anyone with one sided viewpoints. Some people believe that the more strongly they support an idea/argument then the more valid it must be. This is not the case. And not wanting to believe something that's contrary to your opinion doesn't invalidate others. The world is not black and white. #JustATip
