About Chaosbane, don't. It being set in Warhammer universe is pretty much the only thing it has going for it. Otherwise, it's mostly just a Diablo 3 clone.

Sounds like you're not that into the hack and slash games where enemies respawn and you are expected to play through multiple times. Titan Quest is the best of the bunch and if you didn't like it that much, it's probably not your thing. So probably the story based/linear ones are what you're looking for.

Nox is a great suggestion.
Divine Divinty is also a good isometric story game.
Van Helsing can be played linearly (there is even an option that controls whether enemies respawn after a load or not) and has fun dialogue between the main character and the companion.
Victor Vran to a certain degree too.
Dungeon Siege can be a fun romp, but keep in mind that you control a party of up to 8 characters.

Can't agree with the Sacred suggestion though. Sacred games are the definition of repetition and you need to put in dozens of hours before you start fleshing out even a single character.

I'm playing Divine Divinity at the moment, it's a nice Diablo clone.
I also wrote a guide in case you have performance problems with this game.

https://www.gog.com/forum/divinity_series/divine_divinity_smooth_fps_using_dgvoodoo_2_guide

Nox is also a good one and Dungeon Siege, the stories in both games aren't great but gameplay and worlddesign are still pretty good.

Actually I found Titan Quest one of the weaker arpg's I've played, wasted potential in shoehorning in a far east endgame instead of exploring just Medieteranian history/mythology as well as the game became boring slog for me at some point.

This got me to thinking about what interests me in other games. Maybe this will help?

Strong atmosphere. If a game has great atmosphere, I can stay with it a long time.

Strategic combat. I like combat that has a bit of planning, management, and tactical movement.

Ally companions. I love autonomous (or semi-autonomous) companions in games -- even more if they interact with the player character, but I'll take what I can get in this regard.

Magic. I love showy and diverse magic systems.

Interesting characters. I can live with a bare-bones, trope-laden story, but I gravitate toward games with interesting characters.

Creatures. I'm a sucker for traditional Greek mythologic (griffons, chimera, etc.) and D&D creatures (dragons. beholders, etc.) -- one reason I'm attracted to the Fate series. I tend not to like games that have completely made-up creatures (ie Silverfall)

My favorite game is:

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. It has tactical combat, party composition, ally AI, great atmosphere, showy magic, and creatures straight out of Greek mythology and D&D. And yes, most enemies respawn in DDDA (for grinding). Character and story are there, but definitely not overly strong.

So maybe that helps?

Thank you again to all who have been sharing. I appreciate it very much.

IMHOI it's always much better to hear recommendations from people than to search aimlessly through digital pages of the GOG vaults (although I do that as well).
I'd propose Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2. And Temple of Elemental Evil.
Also, why not Drakensang: The Dark Eye? Not isometric, but surely much thinking required too!

JakobFel: I highly recommend checking out Children of Morta.
I've circled this game a number of times but have held off. Not certain "why?" I'll take a look!

Played DoS on PS4 for 20 hours and never made it out of the first village! I sold my disc to a friend. But have both 2 and ToEE. Maybe I should just load them up!?

Yes, I've played a lot of the Drakensang games!

ssling: This is not your typical hack&slash but I had total blast playing Book of Demons.
I wishlisted it awhile back but kinda forgot about it. I'll take a look.

park_84: If you haven't played it yet, try Nox.
Yeah, I hear a lot of Titan Quest and Nox.

Titan Quest plays similarly to Diablo, but has you covered on the creatures. You will fight monsters from Greek, Egyptian and Far East mythologies. From well known stuff like the Gorgons and Medusa, Minotaurs and the like to things like Machae, Limos or Epiales.

The class combo system is also fun to play around with.
Darkstone looks interesting.
Playing a mage in Darkstone was fun. I still keep it installed in case I want to try the other classes. Small install.

Torchlight 2 is a fun game also and using mods can really enhance the game in many ways. I recall using mods in Torchlight 1 where my summons turned into robots that basically were perma summons I think. Laser shooting summons lol.

Don't forget, even some games you've played in the past can become a completely new experience after installing a few mods. (both graphics and gameplay mods)

Modders over at Nexus Mods (and some from moddb also) truly have extended the life of many games and included so much to the quality of life of these games. Pick any of your favorite games and then hop on over to that site to see if there are any mods to tinker with. ;)

Thanks. Yeah, I have some experience with mods... but not a lot. I should check out mods more often, but I'm always afraid of breaking games.

A few people have brought up the Torchlight games. What kind of creatures are in the game? Are they somewhat traditional, or...? I looked at the wiki but IMO it didn't list many enemies.

It doesn't really aim at originality, if I remember well. It's standard dnd stuff : skeletons, gblins, trolls, wizards, etc. The kind of things you'd find in an Eye of the Beholder dungeon.
I already gave you good game recommandations but you ignored it you stupid monkey ass

But also steampunky robots in the second part if I remember correctly.

This being the case, I recommend Kyn. Throne of Darkness requires too much mi romanagement for me, but also features multiple characters. Also, it seems like RTT is more your bag, so games like Myth should be fun. It has RPG elements (leveling characters) and a decent story campaign.

Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age inquisition may also appeal to you. I'm not a fan of AI playing the game for me, and I was completely turned off by that after DA:O.
An isometric action-rpg? Crosscode was the last one I played. Besides combat, exploration and puzzle-solving are also big components of the game.

There isnt that many to be honest. Hack and slash is generally disliked in game industry sadly. I loved Ryse myself.

Lets hope Witcher 4 goes hack and slash route. I think there should be two combat, one hack and slash and second the normal one, maybe duel? Whether its face to face against one dude or then against group of dudes.
