HeresMyAccount: Doing things in life is overrated. Just get a nice iron lung/sensory deprivation tank, get into it, implant the electrodes into your brain to give you a VR simulation of floating aimlessly through outer space, and that's all you'll ever need!
I'm more a luddite with that in that I like good old fashioned "reality" over "vr". :)

HeresMyAccount: I'd bet almost anything that I have a lot more mental issue than you, but I don't want to compare them, because a lot of them are private.
Aw....I was gonna make a chart and hold a contest and everything. :\ .... ;)

HeresMyAccount: I don't think it will be very tough, but I just want to get around to backing up my files first, and I'll probably do the rest in January. But I've been revising a list of steps that I want to take to get everything done, so that when I do it, hopefully everything will go as smoothly as possible.
Sounds like a plan, then.

avatar
HeresMyAccount: EDIT: Actually I just checked my PC and on the side there's a sticker that says "Windows 7 Pro OEM Software Product Key" and then lists the same kinds of numbers and letter which are typically written on a Windows CD or in the paper inside of its case. So I guess that means that I do in fact have a recovery partition, because if I had a Windows CD then the sticker wouldn't be on the side of the computer case, would it?
As to that last bit: I dunno, but I would assume you are correct.

avatar
HeresMyAccount: Also, it occurs to me that if I make an ISO of all the contents on the recovery partition and burn it onto a DVD then I should theoretically be able to boot from that as well, shouldn't I? I mean, it would be nice to have it as a backup just in case anything ever happened to that partition!
That should work.

And you call yourself a gamer.

GameRager: That should work.
Then as of now, that's the plan, and I'll tell you how it goes after I've done it, or if I have any other problems along the way. Thanks again for all your help.

HeresMyAccount: And you call yourself a gamer.
I am a gamer....just not one that's into the flash in the pan gimmick stuff as much(like VR/3d/etc) :)

(Of course/tbh that is likely in part due to being poor and not being able to afford such fancy toys)

To be fair I provided more moral support than help and kept you company here while everyone else left for greener forum pastures, but you're welcome. :)

Yeah, you're right. 3D games will never catch on. Let's go back to the days of ColecoVision!

I know how you feel, because I'm cheap and not able to want to "afford" such fancy toys, so it amounts to much the same thing I guess.

Don't sell yourself short. You've advised me on a number of particulars and inspired a lot of ideas for how to address the problem. As for everyone else, they're deserters and they'll be shot! ...with a confetti cannon.

By 3D I meant "true" 3d(holographic style 3D) like with the newer "3D" TVs or 3D movies. ;)

Yup.....I gotta eat and pay bills and obviously they should come first. :)

GameRager:
I didn't realize it was possible to do that in Serious Sam, but yeah, sure... exactly like that... I don't know about the weird dancing girl though.
avatar
HeresMyAccount: ...
You can do that, but I think it's only a feature in the serious sam HD remakes. :)
(Had to edit your post the way it is now...some part of it was causing my reply to not want to post...sorry about that :))

I think there's a Red Faction game in which you can shoot rainbows or some nonsense like that.

Red Faction Armageddon. The weapon is Mr. Toots (who fires rainbows out of his backside.)

Oh, right. He's a weird unicorn that farts rainbows. That's an effective weapon.

It actually really is. On insane its worth using, makes it that bit easier.

Sounds cool, but a bit weird for a red faction weapon(at least by old RF standards)......btw how are ya doing? Have fun for Xmas/etc? Still kickin'? o.0 :)

What? How was there a post several days ago and I didn't even see it until now? Oh well.

Things have been going about as well as expected, which at the moment is terrible, and I'm extremely pissed off, because even though I finally backed up all my tons of files that were scattered throughout the hard drive, I tried to boot into the other partition just to see if it would load a Windows installation program (I'm ready to do it now, except that I want to wipe the drive first, but I wanted to at least verify that I have a way of installing Windows afterwards), and for some reason I seem to be able to boot from ANY drive EXCEPT that partition! It's not on the list! It doesn't even appear anywhere in the BIOS! I can boot from the C drive, either of my two DVD drives or even my external hard drive, but NOT the recovery partition! So exactly what's the point of it if it can't be used? And I'm still not 100% certain that's even what it is, because I'd have to boot from it to be sure (though it's called Backup something or other, so it probably is). But it doesn't do me any good if it doesn't work! I'm going to go try it again, and take another careful look through the options, but I don't see how the result could be any different. I don't know what to do!!!

Maybe you have to burn those files to a DVD or copy them to a USB stick and then use that?

Also if you own a valid OS key you could always torrent the same OS and make a bootable DVD/USB stick and use that instead.

Actually, supposedly it's because it's not the "active" partition of that drive, so I need to change it. I'm looking up information about software that I can burn to a DVD (as an ISO) and then boot from that, which will allow me to change the active partition so that I can then boot from the recovery partition and then change it back afterwards. It looks somewhat involved but I should be able to do it I hope. Here's the page:

https://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Active-Partition-of-Your-Hard-Disk-with-Parted-Magic

EDIT: Well, I've done all of that now, and I can switch to boot from the other partition, but when I do, it gives me an error saying something about the boot loader/manager can't be found. I changed the hard drive from SATA AHCI mode to IDE mode (whatever the hell that means) and that didn't fix it! What can I do now??? This situation seems absolutely hopeless!!!

As for torrent, I don't think I've ever done that, wouldn't know where to find it, and if I'm not mistaken, aren't those websites where you go if you want to infect your computer with every piece of malware ever made?
