amok: Indeed. Since Runic sell a steam-free version...

johnnygoging: themselves. on their own site. doesn't count. doesn't invalidate my points.
Off course it does. You can get a non-steam version of the game as easy as you can get a steam version. The game does not required steam at all. Therefore your point is....well.... invalid....

wolfsrain: Nope.

timppu: Yes they did! ...for the console versions...
You also get to enjoy months and months in delays in regards to patches and hotfixes.

nightcraw1er.488: For the D1 hd mod, this looks like it is alpha. Does it work with the hellfire expansion, and is it fully playable. From memory I looked at it and neither of the above were true at the time, which is why I mention The Hell mod as this is full and works with both.

Klumpen0815: I've written a small review after finishing it last year, most of your questions may be answered there:

nightcraw1er.488: For D2 hd - does this work with the big mods out there, medianxl for example.as they add a vast amount to the game?
avatar
Klumpen0815: No idea, but I guess if those mods work with exactly v1.12 (which is needed vor the HD mod), they may work.
Well, I tried this out last night. Works really well. After I found that I had to set resolution in the in game menu :o) It works really well though, big screen, have only done the first couple of levels, but there is the skill level changing, and such like in there. Will have to try it with the Hellfire expansion at some point also.

So thanks for pointing this one out.

the numbers on their own in-house version are likely a small fraction of the numbers they do on Steam. you look at any company selling any kind of item, and chances are not bad there's a direct-from-factory option available via that company's website, even during situations where there is a regional agreement with a distributor or retailer to retail exclusively in that region. usually it's more expensive than the mainstream retail version and this holds true in Torchlight's case because when I picked up Torchlight II on sale years ago I checked the website and the sale there was half what it was on Steam. them selling it themselves on their own website does not really work as a counter argument to channel exclusivity, because it's not really a channel. people don't go to runic's website for games. they would only go there for one game.

torchlight released 3 years here after its release on Steam. the same amount of time has passed for Torchlight II, what is stopping it from being here?

exclusivity is an either or thingy. It's a bit like being a little bit pregnant, or slightly dead.

think about that statement again the context of all the AAA exclusives we've had recently. if Torchlight II isn't here because of the realtionship with Valve, then maybe they want to use it to sell Hob. I haven't read anywhere hob is releasing on gog. I'm more inclined to think it's the former rather than the latter. especially when there is no Steamworks tying them to Steam.

It seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

TL2 is available from 3 different vendors, and has also been sold in a bundle by a fourth vendor, and you're using the fact that the game isn't available from a fifth vendor to speculate an exclusivity agreement with one of the previously mentioned three vendors?

wait what is the third? there's steam and origin. I learned here it wasn't being sold on Humble Store. bundles don't count. what's the third?

Runic
The download from Runic can be a pain but once you get it you don't need any kind of internet to play it.
I receved Torchlight free here on GOG from a player... it's really a good games, so good that I bought torchlight II drm-free on humble bundle (the one on the site it's windows only, I use mac)... I think the original torchlight is better then torchlight II because I like the story of torchlight 1 more... but torchlight 2 it's tecnically a better game. Both are really good ARPG.

I don't know if Diablo is good... I want to create a blizzard account... I don't want to buy a game outside gog... I don't want DRM games... and you cannot buy a digital copy of diablo 1 so I cannot start from the original game.

I can't say torchlight is better than Diablo. It's different, but that doesn't mean it's worse either.

While Diablo (especially the first one) felt more rogue-ish, mostly being that you usually went alone, had limited resources, and you were careful most of the time except when you were leveled up enough and had good enough equipment to get you by.

Torchlight 1 is a little more lighthearted, although some mods can make it outright evil to play. Torchlight 2 feels more like a singleplayer MMO, which isn't bad, but you aren't nearly as careful. I remember playing Torchlight and enjoying it, sending my pet more often back to sell crap, and then i got turrets and just started throwing turrets everywhere and doing just fine... The largest annoyance of Torchlight 1 is that if you go to the extra area (infinite dungeon) and you die, going back down 20 levels is just a pain, while adding a jump point every 5 levels like the main game would have been nice.
Has anyone mentioned that in Diablo 2 you can use 'corpse explosion' to kill off your enemies?

I think this conversation is over. :P
