Did they ever get rid of the always online requirement for D3?

Nope.

wolfsrain: No love for Sacred?!:)
Yes! I still have my Dark Elf at level 156.
avatar
wolfsrain: Nope.
Thanks.
That's pretty much the only form of DRM I will not (willingly) touch with a ten foot pole.

johnnygoging: Interesting I've never realized that before. Yeah Runic definitely has a tight relationship with Valve. they're definitely in that Bethesda realm as far as that goes.
avatar
amok: In which way? Neither T1 nor T2 make use of any Steamworks components, T1 is sold Drm free here, and a non-steam version of T2 can be bought directly from Runics website -http://store.runicgames.com/products/torchlight-ii.
in the "we scratch your back, you scratch ours" sort of way. it's a mutually beneficial relationship as publishers get colder and have their own machinations.

MiloRivers: Probably a question that's been answered by many, many times. But seeming as I have played neither, i'm curious which i should buy. Diablo III, or Torchlight. I love looters, and I know that a person who loves looters should have played Diablo by now.. (didn't get into PC gaming but only a few years ago.)

So which is it..

Torchlight vs Diablo III

hedwards: TL was terribly tedious before too long, but TL2 is more or less what Diablo 3 should have been. Runic employs developers that used to work at Blizzard and the composer also worked on the soundtrack for Diablo.

Overall it feels very much like a continuation of the Diablo series, just in a different place with different lore.

Elmofongo: Diablo III.

Torchlight II just looks.....unmemorable and cartoony. Even Diablo has more interesting lore than this.
avatar
hedwards: Have you played Diablo recently? None of the games in the series are particularly memorable. They were insanely fun to play, but they were rather cartoonish and forgettable.

I loved Diablo and Diablo 2, but I wouldn't consider them to be much more than rogue-lites.
I find the games memorable.

I mean these Cinematics for the game certainly helps.
I have played Torchlight for 4-5 months.
For 4-5 hours everyday. With mods, without mods, With extras, without extras .
I can't even remember how many times I finished this game.
It was my first game here on GOG.
Because it was from Summer Sale Giveaway.

I never finished it. It was really easy up to a point at which I just kept getting slaughtered and had no points to put in my stats.

But..... they don't? Exactly how are they scratching each others back in this case, as I explained above. So Runic is not selling T2 here, but what does this got to do with Valve? Or is "thight relationship with Valve" a euphemism for "not sold on gOg"?

Yes.

nightcraw1er.488: For the D1 hd mod, this looks like it is alpha. Does it work with the hellfire expansion, and is it fully playable. From memory I looked at it and neither of the above were true at the time, which is why I mention The Hell mod as this is full and works with both.
I've written a small review after finishing it last year, most of your questions may be answered there:

nightcraw1er.488: For D2 hd - does this work with the big mods out there, medianxl for example.as they add a vast amount to the game?
No idea, but I guess if those mods work with exactly v1.12 (which is needed vor the HD mod), they may work.

interesting, thank you. I will try it out.

neurasthenya: May Victor Vran be suggested as an alternative? ;)
Yes! I've really enjoyed Victor Vran, and it definitely scratches the "Diablo" itch for me. It's DRM free, and supports Linux too!
Well, I was going to say Diablo 1 or 2. But since you're asking Diablo 3? Torchlight is better.

Why? because you can actually own the game.

But, don't forget Titan Quest.

Diablo 3 is definitely better than TL2. I know it's all fashionable to hate sequels these days because something changed from the main game. TL2 is still a fun and good game though. You can't go wrong with either.
