I've been depressed for a while and haven't always been able to see out of that "there are no options, it's hopeless" mindset. Social isolation contributed to that. Going into Covid in 2020, I really thought all forums were dead and didn't bother looking too hard as a result.

But then recently I came across NeoGAF, and it seems like it was an active, lively forum at least from 2018-2021 that allowed political discussions and free speech, for the most part. But now I see nothing but banned names who've left posts and comments I can relate to, that aren't incendiary or hateful, but are well thought out. Gaming discussions are important to me, but I also want to dip into talking about things that matter to me, to exercise my brain and have real discussions with other people.

I just want to know, where do people go after they've been pushed off a forum like that? Is GOG decent? What's the culture like here? Can I talk about something like Jordan Peterson, whether I agree or disagree with something he said, and not get instant perma banned?

On NeoGAF these days, from what I can see, it's like much of social media: people don't seem to talk to each other, they just leave comments.

Posting political posts and discussions are against the CoC of the forum and you might get banned for it.

This is definitely against the forum rules.

Ah. Is there an alternate forum that allows this though? Like, does that exist anymore in 2023?

I don't know. It is definitely not here.

Thank you. I guess I'll have to keep looking, eheh.
This is the first time someone openly admit they love NeoGAF
Also, are you just woke up from coma? Just go to Reddit or Discord for stuff like that
From 2018 to 2021? Didn't that place die when everyone moved over to ResetEra and all the chuds got unbanned for ad revenue? What a strange topic with a strange premise. And no, GOG moderators aren't going to tolerate overly political discussions. Pick a subreddit and shitpost over there.

I've never used NeoGAF :') I only recently found it by googling "gaming forums that allow politics" or something like that.

Reddit and Discord don't feel like communities. People mostly dump their opinions into the void. And the userbases aren't the kind to become regulars, with decently thought out opinions, who engage in conversation.

And yes, kinda :') Depression can cause you to sink into a pit that you can't see out of.

Idk. I've never used the site. From what I can tell, people were able to talk about things like wokism in gaming until very recently. I can see a bunch of posts and comments that are more than single sentences, people quoting each other, and seeming to have a good time. Most of those names seem to have been banned in 2021 & 2022.

I'm not into shitposting :) I'd rather have discussions with people about similar interests, and get to know other regular users.

I think if you reread my post in good faith, rather than in the mindset you currently have, you'd easily be able to see what I'm trying to express.

"Never use NeoGAF"

Oh good. So you only see it from outside. You know that NeoGAF (and now ResetERA) are part of the cause of recent video game fuckery right? Those people aren't right in the head and they even preying on each other like a bunch of cannibalistic social hyena. Why do you think a lot of people got banned?

It's amazing to see someone like you who sounds like you're from 2013 and believe that adding a little politic to video gaming scene will not harm everyone.

Well, good luck with that, politics aren't allowed here. Whatever mindset you think I'm coming from, cryptic gestures like yours already make that box wide open.
Most people 'discussing' politics usually are just looking for others to blame. And since we are international, here we have a lot of 'others'.
If you want constructive talk about inner politics, the international nature of this forum agian is the problem.

So please don't even try.

You could try a USENET newsgroup. newsgroups existed before there was a world wide web. Granted, newsgroups are all but dead, but you might find a community which fits your needs.

At one time google bought a service that recorded and allowed viewing of newsgroups in a browser. But danged if I can remember what that was called. "Re-something". There's the news server, news.individual.net , but they charge 10 euro a year. And one needs a newsreader for that type of server. There was time when many ISPs had their own news servers, but politics and other problems made short work of them.
Why do people feel the need to discuss politics and gaming in the same place? There are many politics forums and many gaming forums. I don't see the need to have those discussions with uneducated, uninitiated for either one. Most people here can't intelligently discuss (my) local politics, and most people on the political foums I fight on haven't played a game since Super Mario World.
