Avogadro6: Not to be confused with this other Uncle Tom.

darthspudius: If you have to question if something is racist, it clearly is not THAT bad.
Its times like this people need to accept that things like Boondocks and Cheppelle and the like are not equal to advocating genocide/dehumanization.

Just because I say nigga does not mean I genuinely hate or dehumanize black people.

Elmofongo: Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?
Haha....probably one of my favorite sketches from the entire show along with "The Playa Haters Ball". ;)
avatar
Elmofongo: And by Adult Swim standards its quite a gem.

Smannesman: If you say so.
I enjoyed Venture Bros, Metalocalypse, Robot Chicken, Rick & Morty, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman and Aqua Teen Hunger Force which I think are all Adult Swim shows.
Although it's very possible I'm wrong about that.
No love for for Moral Orel or Squidbillies? Or the Oblongs?

Oh and is Squidbillies southern-ist? Southernphobic? Somebody help me out here!

Ghostbreed: Pretty sure it's mostly satire in the same vein as Chappelle's Show. Speaking of which it (The Boondocks) had some really really good serious episodes in its early days. I wish it had stayed in that vein but I guess it wasn't bringing in the ratings that Adult Swim wanted, kinda the same reason why Moral Orel was canceled I guess.

Actually to be honest I thought the serious episodes were better, but I guess they weren't bringing in the ratings Adult Swim wanted, sorta like why Morel Orel was canceled.
Moral Orel and Oblongs depresses me. But at least Moral Orel has a point whereas Oblongs is just mean spirited for the sake of it.

Squidbillies is too ugly for my taste.

Well, "-phobic" would imply it fears Southerners so I think it's more or less a satire on the American South although, truth be told, the Squidbillies sound like they poke fun at hillbillies so people from mountainous states since the South doesn't have too many mountains :)

What made you think the Oblongs were mean spirited?

I actually really like Squidbillies, if only because having lived in the south, I've met people who could fit on that show haha. I like its art style too, kinda prefer imperfect or weird art styles over the stereotypical anime and traditional style to be honest.

Which brings me to another point, forget Bob's Burgers, bring back Home Movies!!!

Ghostbreed: Or is it just all satire? Like The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad, but with black people?
I also don't understand the character Uncle Ruckus. An old black man, who hates black people and talk shit about them whenever he can. Even though he's black himself.
avatar
JudasIscariot: Uncle Ruckus is a caricature of the self-hating black man also known as an "Uncle Tom" in popular American culture.
I died when he said he had "reverse vitiligo"

Its ugly in that its too much grossout humor.

Home Movies is kind boring but I watched it nonetheless. This scene made me laugh out loud:

Are you saying the show creators don't really fear Early showing up at their offices with his sawed off and his party liquor and a hat that probably says something obscene?!

To me it parodies both rednecks and hillbillies, maybe leaning a bit more towards rednecks. I wonder if Unknown Hinson (the voice of Early) has any say in that, because his music is a lot like Squidbillies and he's from North Carolina (more rednecks than hillbillies there).

Maybe Squidnecks didn't have quite the same marketability that Squidbillies haha.

They probably don't :) The rednecks are too busy hootin' and hollerin' to really care :)

Oh, gotcha. Yeah Squidbillies can be really over the top, but I don't think it goes any further than Super Jail does (did?).

I really liked Home Movies and Coach McGuirk was a big reason why. Definitely one of my favorite comedy characters of all time.
