With the release of Grim Fandango approaching, I am wondering to myself when System Shock will be released? I would like to point out that the three most requested games on the GOG wishlist are:
1: Grim Fandango at 46,923 votes
2: System Shock 2 at 35,871 votes
3: System Shock 1 at 32,494 votes
I am very hopeful that since the 2 most requested gamed have been released(wish fulfilled) that the third one will be on the way in the near future. System Shock is what pulled me into gaming and since System Shock 2 I have been playing titles that have been trying to replace the best rpg shooters in gaming history(in my opinion) Deus Ex 1-3, Bioshock 1-3, a few others here and there that don't quite hit the same mark.
Please
Please
Please release the best game I have ever played!
I would like to give you my money now!
Thank-you in advance!
I would love to play System Shock. Although it is a little complex to control, haha. It's like trying to fly a spaceship.

The Control bindings are alright from what I have seen, its the interface that gets me.
I'm curious about this one. Don't get me wrong, the game was great (and the sequel is awesome - fantastic, amazing game) but I'm not sure how well this one would hold up. I think it would take a very thick pair of nostalgic rose colored glasses for me to get into it (the look, the controls).

I think, with this one, I will stick with remembering it fondly rather than trying to rekindle the magic.

Well, I suppose it's not that bad. There are some good mods that update the controls quite a bit, and adds WASD/mouse look.
I'd love to see it here. Until then, System Shock Portable is a good way to run it. It's pretty GOG-like (if that's a thing) in terms of running out of the box.

Is that not what System Shock Portable allegedly accomplished?
With all the games being remade left and right I'm surprised that there isn't a System Shock 1 remake in the works somewhere. I've played through the game before. It's a classic, but the controls are archaic, to say the least.

Can you post me a link?

Does it install easily like ArenaSetup and DaggerfallSetup? No manually setting things up like downloading DOSBox? Getting a Code to run the game in DOSBox?

Nothing like Downloading Daggerfall from Bethesda's website essentially.
How is the licensing situation on this one? Last thing I've read was the Lost History of System Shock from 2011 and even with the release os SS2 I've found the original situation highly unlikely to change.

I think you should really just google it rather than ask people to link to abandonware. :P

I believe this is the correct link. It's a 7zip archive. Just extract it and it's already configured for DOSBox. There is a menu to enable/disable the mouse look mod and a few other enhancements.

Edit: Fixed the link

So I don't need to download DOSBox seperately? Like how DaggerfallSetup works?

No links to abandonware, please.

How about this until the day GOG sells this game (or hell if by some unfortunate circumstance it ends up being only on Steam) I would delete the abandonware System Shock 1 to purchase a legit one.
