It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Lexor: Yup. :(
I'm thinking, we need a wishlist entry for its restoration, and filing support tickets.

The killed perfectly good functionality they introduced not that long ago for no good reason. Why? I really can't see the benefit of this change? Is it now the same way in Galaxy?

BE introduced an option to hide the activity feed notification dot. Problem is that it also hides the one for forum replies. So if you don't check the community tab, you don't even know you have pending forum replies. Why the two are linked is beyond my comprehension. Just poor design and implementation. Sadly, once again.

I can't either to be honest. All site wide notifications should take place from a central location and the bell worked well for this.

I use to be able to tell from across the room (I leave Galaxy open) when I had a notificaiton on Galaxy, which was mostly forum replies. Not anymore.

Yep and not done very well I made add because there is some residual code related to forum replies and the bell that never got removed.

The bell is one of few features that works well. Making this change makes zero sense.

One just sees a purple dot next to the community tab and wonders "what's that about", then realises that the lack of forum replies in the bell isn't due to not having any, but because they silently moved them elsewhere while downgrading the related functionality in the process.

Head scratching all around.

It's my understanding that opening multiple tabs in Galaxy isn't possible, yes? It must actually work worse than on the site; what a PITA.

What do you mean by the latter?

Yea I can't even begin to try to explain this one. Sometimes they just make really dumb design choices.

For example clicking on the bell with no nofications in Galaxy reads " See new chat messages, forum replies, friend invites, as well as important announcements and deals relevant to you" which is obviously wrong now. This is fixed on the site though.

Also if you get a notification but don't click on it right away, Galaxy will remind you occasionally saying you have unread notifcations via the Galaxy overlay popup which it it still does for forum replies even though the bell is still 0 which is probably confusing now.

I just thought that the move may be due to forum replies being a community thing ranking higher than notifications about them. If that is the case, it's a bad sign that perhaps notifications for chat messages and friend invites will also be moved to the community tab with each linking to the related pages, leaving "important announcements and deals relevant to you" as the only functionality of the bell. And in that scenario we'll just get more downgraded functionality.

Yeah well, it was mentioned in the profiles announcement thread yesterday, so perhaps someone noticed it, and they removed it today; it does sound like something they forgot or overlooked to do while moving the notifications. Or they just get things done gradually.
So that's what the purple circle was. I guess I'll adapt... what else can I do.

Lexor: Since last profiles/privacy update I do not get any red notifications when I am quoted - is that me only?

EDIT: It seems that GOG's changed notification system (now it's purple dot beside "Community") but it does not display on browser tab as well as it was in the past, so it's much worse... :/ Please GOG, revert this change.
It's gog - something's always broken. :)

Caesar.: What does the dot purple exactly mean? When I clicked it, I couldn't find where someone had quoted/replied to me. It just showed the usual list of threads I have started, none of which had new replies.
avatar
Lexor: If I have purple dot by Community then I have also:

<purple dot> by Community -> <purple dot> by Forum Replies (in menu) -> list of topics, some of them have <silver arrow> which means they have reply/replies to my post(s).
avatar
Barefoot_Monkey: It's a pity - I loved the bell for forum notifications.
avatar
Lexor: Yes, it was also more visible.
I see the purple dot next to "Forum replies", but I think sometimes it doesn't appear next to "Community". Maybe that's because I am on mobile?

Well, I kinda prefer the list of topics with new replies to the old notifications, so at least that's OK I guess.

I created an entry in the community wishlist for the restoration of notifications for forum replies into the bell.

Here's the link (needs more votes).

Please vote, and consider also filing a ticket.

Cheers.

I'm too tired to file anything right now. :P

And very nicely if I may add, cheers.

Now, let's bump the thread when it fall off the first page to get those votes coming in.
