Don't know about the time, but for the money you get a native GNU/Linux version, which will be updated in graphics department (i've read that rendering will be enhanced, high-polygon models, 64-bit binaries will be introduced in future, probably after release for consoles), scalable UI and true type fonts for high resolutions, and other stuff (check theirs nwn ee trello page).

Looks like a good deal if you're a GNU/Linux user, especially with that 85% discount.

Leroux: I'd disagree with Tallima. Multiplayer is indeed a strong forte of NWN, but not a necessity to enjoy the game. I entertained myself with NWN for about three years straight without playing much of anything else on the side (though admittedly that was almost 10 years ago), and only a small part of that was multiplayer, I generally had more fun in single player campaigns, but of course that's a matter of personal preferences and also depending on the modules you play and the people you play with. Just saying, multiplayer is good, but it is not the only reason why NWN is worth it.

EDIT: Personally, I'd say NWN is a great story-telling tool. If you're more interested in combat than story-telling, there are many games that do it better. But there are few that allow users to be as creative with them, and even if you're not interested in creating, you can profit from the creativity of other players.
I completely agree with this statement. I've also enjoyed hundreds of hours of single player campaigns. But there are also many great single player RPGs out there with better quality of life features. Neverwinter nights is great, but it's also aging.

Tallima: Nwn is definitely about multiplayer. It's the most fun an RPG game can offer. You can have a full time DM, or go into a persistent world and define your character, build relationships, and set off on adventures with as real consequences as any have could offer.

For single player, if go elsewhere. It's good, but not fantastic.

Hundreds.

I'd say very much yes, 3ed DnD ruleset is great and relatively newbie-friendly, the expansions's plot is great and tye best campaigns are community-made meaning that you have virtually limitless content to enjoy.

Pherim:
Thank you for the thoughts!

Leroux:
Many thanks. You have a long history with this material. Really appreciate your informational critique.

You've convinced me to purchase both games. I just have to decide whether to do that this moment or not.

Many thanks!

Imho it's worth! Especially the classic diamond edition. Dont think the Enhanced is really necessary. And ya as others already said dont expect too much from the henchman

Thank you.

Yeah, think I'll pick up Neverwinter Nights 2 first... and will pick up 1 down the road (think I should own it but only one AI ally will take me some time to actually want to play it). 2 seems very closely aligned to Dragon Age Origins and I'm finally getting that too.

"Only one AI ally" mostly goes for the main campaign only, which isn't really worth playing anyway. Many add-on campaigns and community modules allow more than one companion, and then there are familiars for mages, animal companions for druids and rangers and summoned creatures on top of it. Of course, "AI controlled" always stays true for all of these, even if you can equip them yourself and give commands to them.
EE edition has a lot of things lined up to be implemented in future like new render , better ui , achievements etc as of now its just a easier way of playing nwn on modern os without much user fixes required . It will be a long wait to get the proper EE experience , they are focusing on making console ports now .

I preferred the nwn 1 story and controls over nwn 2 , there are still a lot of hardlocks(bugs) in nwn 2 story mode and the final parts are meh . The controls in nwn 2 alone will make or break experience before you get in any further . The expansions in nwn 2 outshine the main game.

You only need a faithful, kobold companion. To keep from getting lonely. ;p

Yeah, I was tempted to write something about it but didn't. :)

The majority of companions in NWN isn't really memorable compared to other RPGs, but Deekin is the best!
