For instance, I am playing a certain game called the Settlers 2. It's very obscure and nobody has really heard of it. Yet I enjoy it. I prefer it to GTA V, which is a very bad game despite being mainstream.

Settlers 2 isn't really that obscure in Germany, was a big hit in the mid-1990s.
And I don't think playing old games shows you're weird, actually it's often just a sign that you've got superior taste compared to the mindless masses who love the dumbed-down trash churned out by today's big publishers.

I would say it's not that obscure in general - at least with people of a certain age, which were around during the Settlers 2, 3 & 4 era.

Point being, if obscure games are the topic OP will have to up his game :P. Or at least make a better effort of it. Maybe Supaplex? Nether Earth? Blobby Volley? You could fix that with a GAN tool like ESRGAN. Then it would be a high-quality AI upscaled hok :P

Plenty of obscure games are worthwhile... while many popular, mainstream games are not. Popularity does not necessarily equal worth.

I agree that Geralt/Jon has a history of writing trollish comments, but imo the basic question posed in this thread can be worth discussing. And maybe, just maybe Geralt/Jon is genuinely ignorant that Settlers 2 was quite popular in the 1990s, after all that was almost 30 years ago and he's always struck me as being one of the younger commenters here.

It's I think obscure games from niche genres need attention, too. I wanted to know if it may be wrong/condemnable/weird.

Truly? Maybe it was well known amongst enthusiasts. Like there are many obscure movies which gain a large following in some niche groups, like Blade Runner, and maybe they are later revisited and reappreciated.

Nah its not weird, discovering such games is part of the fun of gaming.

No, Settlers 2 was a really well-known mainstream game in Germany back in the 1990s. Don't know about other countries, but I'd suppose it was somewhat popular at least in Europe.
