There is a website and many games are free to download there.
I am new in Canada, and I just want to know is downloading from that site legal?
For example baldur's gate enhanced edition is not free in gog store but is free there.
I do not want to steal, so if it is not legal, please let me know.
Thx

Thank you for your response. So why they are not going to ban it or filter it?
We had exactly the same thread some time ago. I strongly assume this is a bot, that makes people aware of pirating sites.

EDIT: Okay, it´s a person. Still suspicious...

Takes legal resources to go after sites like that. And even if you figure out who it is and track them down, If you send a C&D letter, another one will probably pop up again somewhere. They're like hydras.

Sorry if my question is repetitive but I am not a bot. I am just new to western countries and this site too.

Yep, that is a nice example. you know in Iran we did not have any copy right rule so understanding the true way is a little hard for me now, but I am trying to find it. Thank you so much for helping me.

Whether it's a person or bot, either way, the original post and thread title is a clear example of covertly breaking GOG's rules, in order to promote & advertise a direct link to an illegal pirate website, whilst pretending to be against it.
I e-mailed support about this a week or so ago when I was looking for a link for a game on gog. It's a direct rip of their site, like they're not even worried about hiding it.

I didn't post to the forum just so I didn't make it away to other people, but it was result #2 in my duckduckgo search.

I am sorry, I edited the post and delete the address, but the environment here is so hostile and disappointing. I just ask a question, one person accuse me to be a bot and you nearly sent me to jail.

This is not good, many people like me who are not familiar enough is going to download from there and think the game is really free and it may cause trouble for them, especially because of the similar names of the legal and the illegal sites.

Well, thank you for taking the time to follow the rules of your new country.

In Canada, copying or distributing copyrighted materials is illegal except for personal archiving of licenses you own, similar to the US. And if you were caught violating these laws, like torrenting, your ISP will send you a C&D letter on behalf of the claimant even if they're international like American entertainment companies. Your account may also be flagged for 6 months in case the claimants want to go ahead and bring you to court. Though no precedent has been set yet to my knowledge.

Bienvenue au Canada!

Given the similarity in domain names, it should be straightforward for GOG to file a trademark dispute using the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution (UDRP) system. That would allow them to seize the gog-games domain itself, which to the non-technical could be more easily mistaken as a legitmate website.

Given GOG's past willingness (*cough*) to fix widely-reported problems with their website, forums, policies and products, it will be interesting to see how quickly they address an issue like this.

Good point. They have sister sites too that GOG can chase down:

[6-letter GOG ad campaign]games.com
[6-letter GOG ad campaign].games

If you come from a country where there are no copyright laws it might be a bit difficult to understand. To combat software piracy many companies are using DRM. Steam, Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, all the big ones. DRM is a hassle even if you play legitimately.

I recently had trouble with Dragon Age Origins on Steam where hyperthreading caused crashes. I wanted to launch the game with set affinity, but due to DRM I cannot launch it directly from the exe file, thus I cannot use the launch options for it. I had to implement a complicated workaround.

GOG is DRM free. Games just work. No waiting for several minutes while the game checks the DRM, like in every Ubisoft game. But this leaves it open for exploit. The site you mentioned is exploiting this. And since it is very difficult to battle against it -- like MeowCanuck said when you cut one down, three more pops up in its place. The other option would be DRM. If you do not want DRM to infest all gaming, buying legally from GOG is a good option. Yes, you can get GOG games easily from pirate sites, but that makes everything worse for everyone else.

Games, especially a bit older games are not that expensive. Especially if you have steady income. If you want cheap, when a new game comes out wait a year. Play something else in the mean time. Often games drop in price after a year. I mentioned Ubisoft earlier. When you buy their Tom Clancy's Far Assassin Watchdog 17 Ultimate Edition, you have to pay €110 when it comes out. Wait a year and you'll find it for €25 in sales. Wait two years and it'll be on Humble Bundle.

Don´t panic, nobody can send you to jail :)
It´s just that one of your first posts is about an illegal site, and that looks suspiciously like a bot posting. Especially since you put the email address in the topic.
